Create a Destruction Lock
In the infotype Legal Hold
(3246), you can specify which employee data is to be locked for destruction.
As a result of legal activities that have not been completed, it can occur that data cannot be destroyed even if its retention period has been exceeded. When destroying data using an archiving object, you must therefore ensure that employee data for activities relevant for legal cases is not deleted from the database. You can ensure this by creating a legal hold (destruction lock) in the infotype 3246.
Example
In a lawsuit regarding the evaluation of overtime (at employee or organizational unit level), the relevant data is excluded from the data destruction by means of a destruction lock until the lawsuit is resolved.
Note
You can continue to edit data records with a destruction lock, for example, using Personnel Master Data Maintenance
(transaction PA30
).
A destruction lock (data record in infotype 3246) is valid as of the entry date of the employee until the highest system date and consists of the following information:
Subtype to which the destruction lock is to be applied
The name of the subtype is identical to the name of the associated archiving object for data destruction.
Name of the legal hold (for example, the lawsuit)
You can also use the infotype text to enter a detailed description for the legal hold (destruction lock).
