Info Objects

Definition

There are two basic kinds of info objects in the SAP Knowledge Warehouse:

• Content objects

• Structure objects

Content objects are independent units of information containing different kinds of information contents (text, graphs, audio-visual).

Structure objects contain hierarchically organized links to other info objects. They are displayed in the browser on the left side. The top node of a structure always refers to a content object that is displayed on the right side of a web page. Structures are used to create a structured presentation of a set of info objects and to navigate in these contents. Since structures, in contrast to content objects, do not contain any language information, they are not language-specific.

Use

Since content objects can be referenced in structures and with hyperlinks in other content objects, they can be used as often as required.

Since structures can be referenced in other structures as a substructure, they can also be used more than once. A structure can be referenced with either a link or an include. In the latter case, the structure display is transparent, that is, when you navigate from the starting structure to the included structure the entire structure remains visible in the Browser. When you reference a structure with a structure link, however, only the referenced structure is displayed.

Each info object is assigned to exactly one folder containing all the versions of the object. Info objects can be referenced in the info objects of any other folder, regardless of their folder assignment.

Content objects are not assigned a technical, internal structure. However, the content objects of certain Info Object Classes can be classified with the Content Type attribute and assigned the corresponding formatting with the appropriate content templates.
