Documentary batches are intended for branches such as the automotive or consumer products industries. You can use documentary batches to ensure the traceability of partial stock of a material without having to manage the stock of the material in batches. This enables you to trace the use of batches with very little effort.
Advantages of this compared to “real” batches are:
Reduced complexity
Reduced recording effort
Reduced costs for inventory management, physical inventory, and confirmation
If you are using SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM), you can record documentary batches for traceability of deliveries for the following process steps:
For goods receipt for external procurement to define which products were delivered by which supplier and posted to your stock
When picking a delivery for customers to define which products were sent to which customers
For more information about documentary batches, see SAP Library under
.To use documentary batches across multiple systems, you have connected SAP EWM to SAP ERP.
You have activated business function LE, Extended Warehouse Management Integration
.
You have configured the required settings in Customizing for SAP ERP:
You have set up a warehouse of type ERP with EWM (Extended Warehouse Management)
.
For more information, see Customizing for Logistics Execution
under .
You can set up general Customizing for documentary batches.
For more information, see SAP Library under Logistics - General
under .
In Customizing for SAP EWM, you have defined the delivery process (item type and document category) for which documentary batches are to be used. For more information, see Customizing for SCM Extended Warehouse Management
under .
When you create an inbound delivery with reference to a scheduling agreement, or when you create a sales order for a material for which documentary batches are mandatory, the inbound delivery is replicated to SAP EWM. Here, you record the documentary batch when confirming putaway.
When you create an outbound delivery with or without reference to a sales order, the outbound delivery is replicated to SAP EWM. Here, when confirming picking, you record the documentary batch for the material for which documentary batches are mandatory.
Note that the documentary batches in outbound processing are only updated when goods are issued in SAP ERP. In a similar way, documentary batches in inbound processing are updated when goods are received in SAP ERP. Previous communication steps between SAP EWM and SAP ERP, such as those for updating batch splits, contain no information about documentary batches.
