Back Office Departments

This Model Table function is used to provide periodic assignment data for the relevant General Ledger accounts to the according back office departments.

Because relevant GL accounts in a Public Sector Profitability and Cost Management process can change quite frequently it makes sense to decouple them from the more stable calculation model by using resources. It also allows you to use only an adjusted part of the total amount and to split the GL account values across various resources.

It defines the following fields:

  • Version: When a real general ledger is connected, there is no variance since a general ledger provides only one version of the truth. In this case, the version field can be given a fixed value. The version field can be useful if a side-car approach is used, where versioned data is provided in addition to real general ledger data.

  • Posting Date: This field gives you the flexibility to provide GL totals on a yearly, quarterly, monthly or even daily basis to run the profitability and cost management process.

  • Finance Source: In some system landscapes, not all the relevant accounting data comes from one general ledger. If this is the case, the Finance Source field has different values and is still available in reporting.

  • GL Account: This field is also referred to as Cost Element. It is used to record revenues and costs at a granular level.

  • Back Office Department: This field holds an information about back office department of the given public sector institution or company.

  • Adjustment [%]: This field is used as distribution base for assigning the GL account to the corresponding back office departments, with splitting percentage given in this column.
