Transactions and the ACID principle

A

Transaction

is an indivisible unit of processes such as reads and writes.

ACID

is an acronym for

Atomicity

,

Consistency

,

Isolation

and

Durability.

Atomicity:

A Transaction fails even if only one part of it fails.

Consistency:

A Transaction brings the database from one consistent state to

another.

Isolation:

Transactions cannot interfere with each other.

Durability:

Data changed by committed Transaction are persisted, even after a

power loss or error.
