Copying Remote Content

Use

Content usage mode: remote delta link

Applies to: consumers

This topic describes how a content administrator on an SAP NetWeaver consumer portal can browse the Portal Catalog of a remote SAP NetWeaver producer portal and create delta links to the remote content.

Prerequisites

  • You have created an FPN connection that pairs your system (the consumer portal) with the remote system (the producer portal).

  • Your system (the consumer portal) is registered with the producer portal.

  • You have successfully tested the remote delta link readiness of the FPN connection. For more information, see Testing Remote Delta Link Integrity .

  • The content administrator has been assigned at least administrator read permission to the FPN connection from which you want to retrieve content. For more information, see Assigning Administrator Permissions to FPN Connections .

  • The content administrator has been assigned at least administrator read permission to the remote content on the producer. For more information, see Exposing Content on the Producer for 'Remote Delta Link' Usage .

  • The content administrator is assigned to the standard Content Admin role on the consumer portal.

Procedure

You can either add remote content as remote delta links directly to local content (pages, worksets, and roles) or you can first create remote delta links as unit objects in your Portal Catalog and then assign the copied unit objects to local objects (pages, worksets, and roles).

Adding Remote Objects Directly to Local Pages, Worksets, and Roles

  1. On the consumer portal, navigate to Start of the navigation pathContent Administration Next navigation step Portal Content ManagementEnd of the navigation path.

  2. Open the local role, workset, or page in its respective editor (Role editor, Workset editor, or Page editor).

  3. If you are adding remote content to a local role or workset, select either the root node of the role/workset, a workset node, or a role folder node to which the remote object will be added as a child.

  4. In the Portal Catalog, locate the remote producer listed in the root folder: Remote FPN Producers

  5. Browse the Portal Catalog of the remote producer to locate the object to which you want to create a remote delta link.

  6. Right-click the object and then choose Add <Object Type> to <Object Type> .

If you have added a remote object to a local role or workset, a remote delta link is created within the node you have selected.

If you have added a remote object to a local page, a remote delta link is created in the first container of the page. Use the page layout view to move the object to a new container, if needed.

Creating Remote Delta Links as Unit Objects in your Portal Catalog

  1. On the consumer portal, navigate to Start of the navigation pathContent Administration Next navigation step Portal Content ManagementEnd of the navigation path.

  2. In the Portal Catalog, locate the relevant remote producer listed in the root folder: Remote FPN Producers

  3. Browse the Portal Catalog of the remote producer.

  4. Right-click a folder or object (role, workset, page, iView, or business objects) in the producer's Portal Catalog. Then, choose Copy .

  5. Right-click a folder in your own Portal Catalog (in the Portal Content root folder) and then choose Paste as Local Content .

  6. Perform the on-screen steps in the wizard to copy the content as remote delta links to your portal.

Once you have created a remote delta link as a unit object in your Portal Catalog, you then manage the content as you would with locally created delta link objects.
