Creating Storage Object Characteristics for Business Locations

Use

You create storage object characteristics (SOC) for a business location in order to register site tankage information for that location.

Once you have defined storage object characteristics, dip readings for the relevant storage objects can be used as the basis for stock reconciliation and replenishment processes. For more information on the handling of dip readings, see Dip Reading Management .

Prerequisites

The business location for which storage object characteristics are to be created must already exist.

Procedure

  1. Choose Start of the navigation path Logistics Next navigation step Sales and Next navigation step Distribution Next navigation step Service Station Retailing Next navigation step Master data Next navigation step Location Next navigation step Change End of the navigation path

The Change Business Location: Initial screen appears.

  1. Enter the location ID of the business location that you want to change.

Note Note

You can define storage object characteristics at the general (that is, business location type) level only.

End of the note.
  1. To display the storage object listing screen, choose Start of the navigation path Goto Next navigation step Location Next navigation step data Next navigation step Storage objects. End of the navigation path

Note Note

You can use this menu path or the tabstrip control to access the storage objects listing from any other screen within the business location maintenance transaction.

End of the note.

The storage object characteristics screen displays two list tables:

  • The first table shows a list of storage object segments assigned to the business location. Using this listing table, you can select the following functions for each storage object segment shown on the list:

  • The second table shows the total capacity of the site by material for the current date and time. This information is derived from the assignment of storage objects to materials. You can change the date and time if you wish to display the total capacity of the site at another point in time.

  1. To create a new storage object, choose Insert line .

The Storage object type and class dialog box appears.

You have to enter a storage object type to enable the system to copy reference characteristics from the master record for the storage object type. The system also derives the storage object class from this entry. The storage object class determines the fields that are available on the detail screen.

  1. Enter the required storage object type and choose Enter .

The detail screen for the object class appears.

  1. Enter the basic data for the storage object.

During the creation of the storage object segment, you can enter a sequence number to define the storage object for the business location. If you leave this field blank, the system allocates the lowest available unused number for storage objects at that site.

By branching to other screens, you can also enter:

  1. After you have entered the data, go back to the storage object listing screen.

The message Storage object characteristics segment <n> has been created is displayed (where n is the number of the storage object).

  1. When you have completed the entry of all storage object characteristic data for the business location, save the data.

The initial screen for changing the business location master record appears. The message Business location <location ID> has been changed is displayed.

  1. To display or change storage object characteristics, carry out steps 1. - 4. and double-click the relevant storage object segment in the storage object list.
