Business Application IDs and Identifiable Business Contexts

Definition

The Web services framework of SAP NetWeaver 7.4 does not use business appplication IDs for addressing ABAP systems any more. Instead, a new addressing concept has been introduced: Identifiable Business Context.

For more information, see Semantic Addressing Using Identifiable Business Contexts (IBCs).

When you upgrade from an older system to SAP NetWeaver 7.4, business application IDs are replaced by Identifiable Business Contexts (IBCs) and Identifiable Business Context references (IBC references). The former business application ID is also used as the ID of the Identifiable Business Context. With the upgrade, the following Identifiable Business Contexts are created:

  • An Identifiable Business Context is created for the local client.

The type of such an Identifiable Business Context is client and it is named by its system ID and its client. For example, the name of the Identifiable Business Context of client 100 in the system ABC would be ABC/100. The ID is the same as the business application ID.

  • An Identifiable Business Context reference is created for the local client.

The Identifiable Business Context reference also takes over the business application ID and its type is also client.

  • An Identifiable Business Context reference is created for each business application ID that is involved in communication with the local client.

The new Identifiable Business Context references automatically replace the old business application IDs. This applies to the following:

  • All participants in existing integration scenario configurations

  • All managed systems of a central system

  • The systems in logon data assignments

  • In logical receiver determination that is based on service groups

  • In local integration scenario configurations

  • In service group configurations
