You can use the Parts List Settings window to establish rules for Parts List generation.

Part List Name Source
Use Scene Tree Node Name: Parts list is created by comparing names or geometry of nodes in Scene Tree. Displayed part names are taken from node names in Scene Tree.
Build From CAD BOM (If Present): This setting is only available for CAD assemblies, and CAD assemblies saved into .rh file format. CAD metadata PartName and IsPart are being applied to ensure that Parts List built from CAD parts only. The comparison method uses the Compare Names or Compare Geometry setting to determine parts which parts to group together. Displayed part names are taken from CAD metadata PartName.

Defines how to identify parts in a scene
Compare Names: Grouping by names comparison
Skip Characters from Right: When comparing names drop specified number of characters from end, maximum of 20. If name length is less than specified number, first character only remains for comparison.
Skip Numbers Only When set, only numbers at the end of name will be ignored
Compare Geometry Grouping by geometry match
Exact Group objects or nodes that have an exact geometric match.
Allow Sub-Assemblies (Groups) in Part List Parts with no geometry are allowed.
Import
Sets your BOM file import settings
Automatically Load .bom.xml Files: Selects automatic loading of .bom.xml files from a specific location defined by the Browse option
Browse: Selects the folder location for BOM files
Clear: Clears the BOM filename field
Create Dummy Nodes if Part is Missing: Creates dummy, bounding box, nodes if parts are missing or deleted.
