CADTools Toolbar

Use

CADTools is a set of tools used to optimize 3D files for display and manipulation. Polygon reduction tools can significantly reduce the density of 3D models with minimal loss in visual definition resulting in a more interactive performance, and faster download speeds for Web-based 3D applications.

The CADTools toolbar is used to perform a number of actions on selected objects, or on the entire scene.

Features

Using the toolbar, you can perform the following actions:

Toolbar Option

Functional Description

Invert Faces

Inverts faces only.

Invert Normals

Inverts surface normals only

Invert Faces and Normals

Inverts faces and surface normals

Unify Normals

Unifies surface normals

Remove Hidden Objects

Removes hidden and internal parts from models

Remove Attributes

Removes UVs, Part IDs, Normals, or Metadata

Separate Meshes

Groups an object that is grouped under one object but made up of a number of separate meshes, as separate meshes under the object's name

Join Equal Points

Reduces polygons by joining all the points that have equal (coincident) x,y,z coordinates. This operation smooths the lines and reduces the number of polygons, resulting in a smaller file.

Reduce Model

Reduces the polygon count of entire models or separate objects, while preserving the defining visual features

Heal Model

Repairs models that contain disjointed faces, cracks, overlapping geometry, and duplicated edges

Convert to Double-Sided

Duplicates an object’s polygons to display the same surface on the front and back faces of the object.

Randomize Objects

Shifts all 3D points in the entire model or a single object by small, random amounts.
