Reduce Model Settings Window

Use

Objects selected for reduction are examined by the reduction tool, and if certain components exist, the appropriate reduction options are automatically selected.

You can modify these settings for the best results when reducing a model. That is, you can remove any discontinuity from reduced models, and dictate to what extent various components of the model are used in the reduction.

If you have healed a model, you can lessen the reduction processing time by deselecting the Prepare Options checkboxes, as these tasks are performed during the healing process. Clearing these options significantly reduces the processing time for large models.

Functional Description

Common Options

Establishes mesh settings:

  • Skip Hidden Meshes: Processes visible meshes only

Normalize Meshes

Scales small mesh objects to reduce the display of geometric artifacts and minimize floating point errors. This is helpful when a model is very small or very large, or when the polygon reduction process is slow.

Prepare Options

Joins vertices, normals, UV, and colors to prevent discontinuity. These options preserve edges and increase the display quality of models.

  • Join Vertices: Merges vertices, if they are contained in the model, based on the distance between them. This prevents cracks and holes if points that are different are close to each other and the polygon count is low. Increasing this value decreases any cracks or holes in reduced models. This option works equally well on large and small models.

  • Join Normals: Merges normals based on their angle, if they are contained in the model

  • Join UV: Merges UVs based on the distance between them, if they are contained in the model

  • Join Colors: Merges colors if they are contained in the model

Reduce Options

Defines to what extent the model’s components are taken into account during the reduction process. Increasing these values minimizes errors by applying a lesser reduction.

  • Normals Influence: Uses normals to influence the reduction, if they are contained in the model, based on the specified value.

  • UV Influence: Uses UVs to influence the reduction, if they are contained in the model, based on the specified value. For example, a model may have UVs, but if there is no texture on the model the UVs are not needed. Therefore, you can disable the UV influence for a higher quality reduction.

  • Material Influence: Uses materials to influence the reduction, if they are contained in the model, based on the specified value

  • Colors Influence: Uses colors to influence the reduction, if they are contained in the model, based on the specified value
