Step 3: Adding Actions

Use

You can use the action options to select the types of actions to be performed once matching objects have been matched in the query. Actions are the functions that are applied to objects that match when filters are evaluated. Actions operate on an object and its children by default. This is called recursive. For all actions added to a statement, you can choose to restrict those actions to the specific object passing the filter. You cannot mix recursive and non-recursive actions.

There are a number of different types of actions that can be added to a query. They are as follows:

Action

Description

Select Objects

Selects all objects

Deselect Objects

Deselects all objects

Show Objects

All objects are made visible

Hide Objects

All objects are hidden or invisible

Suppress Objects

Objects are suppressed

Resume Objects

Suppressed objects are released. This action reverses their suppression so that they are candidates for filters in queries.

Suppress Procedures

Procedures are suppressed

Delete Procedures

Procedures are deleted

Resume Procedures

Suppressed procedures are released. This action reverses their suppression so that they are candidates for filters in queries.

Flag

Sets or clears Marked flags on objects, so there are a number of marks that can be tested with filters.

Appearance

Selects appearance actions to perform. These include assigning opacity, render mode, and materials to objects, and also highlighting objects.

Miscellaneous

Selects miscellaneous actions to perform on selected objects.
