Line Styles Tab Page

Use

The Line Styles tab is used to control the properties of any line styles associated with a material, for polylines, illustrations and wireframes. For example, you can specify the thickness of a line, whether it is a dashed or solid line, and whether the line ends are rounded.

Functional Description

Polylines

Used as a style guide for the display of polylines associated with a material. These settings are valid for polylines in mesh objects and all render modes.

  • Line Width: Sets the thickness of the line.

  • Units: Determines the way in which the line style is measured. Units are either measured in 2D or 3D.

    • 3D, Object Space: Measure the lines by using object units. The lines remain constant as the camera moves around, and you can see perspective on these lines.

    • 3D, World Space: Measure the lines by using world units. The lines remain constant as the camera moves around, and you can see perspective on these lines.

    • 2D, View Space: Measure the lines in units. Moving the camera does not alter the absolute length of the line. For example, if the dashes in a dashed line pattern are 20 pixels long on screen, they will always be 20 pixels long.

    • 2D, Points: Measure the lines by using points.

    • 2D, [current scene units]: Measure the lines by using the current measurement units set in the scene. Lines with this linestyle behave as other 2D lines, but their screen/paper/illustration physical sizes are defined in scene units; for example, mm.

  • Halo: Draws polylines on top of a thicker solid line using the background color. This means that as the line width changes, the halo scales accordingly. The halo value is a numeric value where 0.0 = no halo and 1.0 = white borders the same width as the line.

  • Color: Determines the color of the polylines

  • Use Diffuse Color: If checked, diffuse color is used

  • Dash Pattern: Denotes the appearance of the line. That is, whether it is a solid or dashed line. This is left empty to produce a solid line, or a comma separated list of numbers to produce a dashed line.

  • End Style: Determines the way in which the line ends display

    • Butt: The lines ends 'butt' up against each other.

    • Round: The line ends are rounded.

  • Preview: Displays an example of the way in which the line will display

Illustration Mode

Used as a style guide for line drawing display in Illustration mode.

  • Units: Determines the way in which the linestyle is measured. Units are measured in 2D.

    • 2D, View Space: Measure the lines in units. Moving the camera does not alter the absolute length of the line.

    • 2D, Points: Measure the lines by using points.

  • Line Width: Sets the thickness of the line

  • Silhouette Width: Creates a thicker line relating to the external lines

Wireframe Mode

Used as a style guide for line drawing display in Wireframe mode.

  • Units: Determines the way in which the line style is measured. Units are measured in 2D.

    • 2D, View Space: Measure the lines in units. Moving the camera does not alter the absolute length of the line.

    • 2D, Points: Measure the lines by using points.

  • Wireframe Width: Sets the thickness of the wireframe
