Move Pivot Point Settings

Use

You can use the Move Pivot Point tool to move the selected objects’ pivot points relative to the selected axis or axes. When you select Move Pivot Point, you can then move the selected objects’ pivot points by dragging them within the viewport.

Moving a pivot point can be performed on no more than two axes at one time.

You can view and modify the pivot point settings in the Tool Assistant. The settings are saved to your computer registry for future use.

Functional Description

Pivot Position

Positions individual and grouped objects along their individual axes interactively

  • X: The position on the X axis

  • Y: The position on the Y axis

  • Z: The position on the Z axis

  • Move Pivot Point To Object Center: Moves the pivot point to the center of the object

  • Move Pivot Point To Scene Center: Moves the pivot point to the center of the scene

  • Move Pivot Point To Selection Center: Moves the pivot point to the center of the selection

  • Bake Pivot to Geometry: Bakes a pivot matrix to points

Axis Constraints

Defines the active axes

  • X: The selected object’s X axis is active

  • Y: The selected object’s Y axis is active

  • Z: The selected object’s Z axis is active

Coordinate System

Sets the coordinate system to use

  • Local Coordinate System: The coordinate system that relates specifically to the selected object

  • World Coordinate System: Aligns the coordinates to control the camera movement along the world axes

  • Parent Coordinate System: Objects at the top level of the hierarchy are considered to be children of the scene itself

  • Screen Coordinate System: Aligns the coordinates to control the camera movement along the viewport axes

Snap Settings

Sets the pivot point that you want to move; either vertices, edges, faces, or arcs. For example, if you select Vertices and Faces, only those elements are highlighted in the scene. The elements that can be moved within the scene are highlighted when your cursor moves them. On/Off enables and disables the snap settings.

  • Source: The selection options for the pivot point

    • Vertex: Displays green “points” indicating a corner of a polygon where two edges meet, or of a polyhedron where three or more faces meet. A polyhedron is a three-dimensional solid bounded by polygons.

    • Edge: Displays lines of intersection between two faces

    • Face: Displays planar surfaces of a geometric solid

    • Arc: Displays lines that curve around a face with a center point and radius displayed in red

    • Center: Snaps the pivot point to the center of the selected elements

  • Destination: The selection options for the destination object.

  • Orientation: Sets the orientation for the moved object

    • Align: The moved object is aligned with the destination object
