Links to Other Objects

Procedure

You can include links in your text that allow users to see other documents or to execute actions. Two types of links are provided:

  • Displaying another document

  • Executing an action

Text for which a link exists is highlighted. The user can follow the link by clicking on the highlighted text (hotspot) in the help display.

Inserting a Link

  1. Position the cursor to where you want to insert the link.

  2. Choose Start of the navigation pathInclude Next navigation step LinkEnd of the navigation path. A dialog box for selecting the type of link appears.

  3. Using F4 input help, select the link type for the Selected Link.

  4. Enter the name of the object you want to link to and the text you want to insert in your document as a hotspot ( Link Text).

  5. Choose Continue. The link is inserted into the text.

  6. Test the link: Choose Start of the navigation pathDocument Next navigation step Screen OutputEnd of the navigation path and double-click on the highlighted text.

Checking All Links in Document

To ensure that all links in your document are syntactically correct and that the target objects actually exist, choose Start of the navigation pathDocument Next navigation step CheckEnd of the navigation path.

If all links are correct, then this is displayed in the status bar.

If the document contains a link with errors, then this is displayed in a dialog box. Correct the link as follows:

  1. Select the link.

    The line with the incorrect link is automatically located at the top edge of the window.

  2. Correct the link.

  3. Then choose Start of the navigation pathDocument Next navigation step CheckEnd of the navigation path again.
