Template

Definition

The template is a dynamic calculation tool that uses functions and formulas to allocate business process costs to cost objects based on cost originators. It consists of a row/column grid. The template calculates numeric values and determines the results of Boolean expressions (true or false).

A template returns the actual sender objects ( business processes or cost centers/activity types ) and quantities for single transaction costing and the periodic template settlement.

Use

You can use the template as an aid in determining quantity-based utilization of business processes or cost centers/activity types by cost objects. This allows you to supplement or replace overhead costing with template allocation.

The template accesses the master data in the single transactions and determines the relevant cost drivers, which the template then uses to evaluate the processes or cost centers/activity types used. Accessing of the relevant cost drivers involves using the functions in the template environment .

Caution Caution

Every finance object is assigned exactly one bank product and one product variant, which means that every single transaction has exactly one template. The template itself is uniquely identifiable by its template environment , the controlling area , and the template name .

End of the caution.

Structure

A process template contains the following columns:

  • Category, e.g. process, cost center/activity type, sub-template, calculation row

  • Long name

  • Object, e.g. name of sub-template and calculation row

  • Quantity (cum./periodic), e.g. process quantity

  • Activation condition (cum./periodic)

You either explicitly enter the values in the columns, or you define mathematical formulas and methods that the system will use to calculate the values. This allows for different business cases to be defined in a single template.

You have to determine whether a process or a cost center/activity type is used for both the cumulative and for periodic views. The activation condition of the template (cumulative or periodic) makes it possible for costs to be allocated based on certain information in the single transaction.

Example Example

Dealing with a new investment? Is an interest payment due for loan X in the current period?

End of the example.
