Access Using Database Tools

We offer our own tools for database access, including the Computing Center Management System (CCMS).

If you decide to use other tools or applications, make sure that you are aware of the implications described below.

Direct Access Using External Applications

Certain external applications use the SAP SQL interface or the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) interface to connect directly to the database.

If you do decide to use such tools, take the following precautions:

Do not use the user SAPR3 to connect to the database. Create other users for such purposes.
Restrict the access rights of such users to the necessary tables only.
Assign read-only access to these users.

Caution

If you do allow direct access to the database, make sure that you do not damage the consistency or authorization security of your database. SAP tools help you to guarantee the data consistency mechanisms and authorization concept in SAP systems.
