Important Information When Creating Equipment and Functional Locations in SAP Asset Intelligence Network

When creating equipment and functional locations in SAP Asset Intelligence Network, make sure to take the following points into account:
  • Only published equipment with model and published functional locations are synchronized in SAP Internet of Things.

  • Updates (except when a new indicator group or indicator is added or removed) made to templates after assignment to published equipment or functional locations are not reflected in SAP Internet of Things.

  • Once equipment is published, changes made to the internal ID of templates, indicator groups, or indicators assigned to the equipment or changes to the datatype of the indicators lead to the equipment being out-of-sync with SAP Internet of Things.

  • Ensure that the number of characters in the Indicators Name field is less than 34, in case synchronization with the IoT Services, is required.

  • Synchronization of deletion of models and groups do not reflect in the SAP Internet of Things.

  • In order to synchronize a piece of equipment with custom gateway, ensure that the gateway is online in SAP Internet of Things.

  • No manual intervention is allowed when performing IoT sync. (Manual Updates on the IoT side will not reflect inSAP Asset Intelligence Network data.)

  • You must select a gateway when enabling IoT Sync. By default, MQTT is selected. Gateways once synchronized cannot be changed.

  • Once a piece of equipment or functional location is published and successfully synchronized with SAP Internet of Things, any further edits on the equipment or functional location data will not trigger the synchronization process again except if there is a change in the indicator or indicator group or template of the equipment or functional location.
    • Addition of Indicator Groups and addition of Indicators in already synchronized Indicator groups in SAP Asset Intelligence Network will be considered for further synchronization with SAP IoT.

    • If you enabled IoT Sync for a piece of equipment or functional location, a corresponding device is created on the SAP IoT side when the equipment is published. Also, the relevant device ID would be automatically available under the External IDs in the header information of the equipment or functional location.

    • For a synchronized piece of equipment or functional location, subsequent publish will not trigger a resync and any further updates(except for assignemnt/unassignment of indicator groups, indicators, equipment templates or functional location templates) will not be synchronized to SAP Internet of Things.

    • For a synchronized piece of equipment or functional location, assignment/unassignment of indicator groups, indicators, and equipment templates or functional location templates trigger an immediate sync call to IoT to sync the updates in mappings.

  • To synchronize indicator value among the SAP Asset Intelligence Network and SAP Internet of Things, map the indicator data types as mentioned in the table:
SAP Asset Intelligence Network SAP Internet of Things
    String String
    Numeric Float
    Numeric Flexible Decimal Number
    Boolean Boolean
    Date Date
  • You can delete the indicator or indicator groups in SAP Asset Intelligence Network, if they are not yet shared. If any of the indicators have time-series data collected for these on the SAP Internet of Things side, then the deletion is done at the SAP Asset Intelligence Network end, but not on the SAP Internet of Things.
