New General Ledger

Use

The guidelines for posting to Accounting for companies of a particular size or for listed companies have changed due to current legal requirements within the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

You can no longer create balances for each company code or for other business areas within a company code with the New General Ledger. You can therefore create individual balances, for example, for profit centers or segments. With the segments, you have the option, for example, of classifying according to production-technique (divisions, goods) or geography (locations, countries). You can thereby perform detailed posting.

You also have the option of distributing liabilities according to expenses.

Prerequisites

The changes necessary for the New General Ledger are first valid for the USA (country grouping 10) and International country versions.

You do not have to use this function.

You can also find information about the New General Ledger in Customizing (IMG) for Payroll under Start of the navigation path Reporting for Posting Payroll Results to Accounting Next navigation step New General Ledger. End of the navigation path

Note Note

The Customizing of all company codes must be the same and take place on the same release level. You can only use the New General Ledger, if your FI system and HR system are on the same release.

End of the note.

Features

Without the New General Ledger function, the expenses were posted with the relevant expense information within the posting transfer, but the liabilities were posted exclusively with the company code and business area. Other information was not provided with the posting of liabilities. The following accounting units are included with the New General Ledger:

  • Company code

  • Business area

  • Segment

  • Profit center

  • Fund

  • Grant

    Note Note

When distributing liabilities to different accounting units, tiny differences for each personnel number can arise when rounding. These rounding differences are added to the largest of the amounts involved in the calculation. Clearing may therefore be necessary between the accounting units.

    End of the note.

Activities

With the posting transfer, you have the following options:

  • If you want to post liabilities without special account assignments and only with company code and business area, you can continue to use the existing posting solution. You do not have to use New General Ledger Accounting.

  • You can post all liabilities with their respective expense information from the infotype 0001. The master account assignment is used for posting in this case. For more information, see Posting to Master Account Assignment .

  • You can distribute liabilities according to expenses and thereby distribute them to the different accounting units. For more information, see Distribution of Liabilities According to Expenses .

As a result of the changes brought about by the New General Ledger, there are also changes in the area of posting retroactive accounting data. For more information, see Posting Recalculation Differences .
