Import Queue Web UI - Importing Transports

Use

You can use different methods to import transports into the target system. You can choose between performing any of the methods in dialog, or in the background. The best method for you depends on your system landscape and your transport strategy. You can also combine these methods.

Prerequisites

Depending on the deployment method implemented in the target system, you must determine to which degree users should be isolated from the target system so that transports do not interfere with productive usage. For example, if the deployment is set up in a way that the application server is shut down automatically after the import, then users must know in advance when they should log off from the system. If files are only put into a file system during deployment, then users can continue working in the system while imports are running.

Procedure

You have the following options:

  • Perform Import Checks.

Before you start or schedule the import of all transports in one project or the import of individual transports, you should check whether the selected transports have overlaps with other transports. This includes checking whether there are predecessors in the import queue and whether the selected transports will downgrade objects that have been imported before.

For more information, see Performing Import Checks.

  • Start the Import of All Transports in an Import Queue (Mass Transport Strategy).

You can import all transports in the import queue. The transports are imported in the order in which they are placed in the import queue.

For more information, see Starting the Import of All Transports in an Import Queue.

  • Start the Import for Individual Transports (Single Transport Strategy).

As well as having the option of importing all transports in the import queue, you can also import individual transports from the import queue. The transports you choose are imported in the order in which they are placed in the import queue.

For more information, see Starting the Import for Single Transports.

  • Perform a Test Import.

Before you start the import you can check with the test import function whether the transport tools work correctly.
