Semantic Mapping

Use

The mapping tool carries out the transformation between the various data structures.

  • During Export the mapping tool generates STEP data to be written into an exchange file, from the SAP objects.

  • During Import the mapping tool transforms the STEP data from the STEP Instance Repository into SAP objects.

The basis for the transformation is the comparison of the semantics of the STEP entities with the relevant SAP objects.

Features

You determine the rules that control the transformation of data in a specific scenario. You summarize these rules in a mapping context. The bases for this transformation scenario are attributes.

  • The attribute type defines how the properties of an object (such as material type or material number) are defined from the data model of the target or source system.

  • The settings for value mapping control how an attribute value in the target system is generated from one or more attribute values in the source system.
