Search
You can use this function to search for objects and their attributes for all object types in the work centers, and in the control center of the Web user interface (Web UI) in SAP Product Lifecycle Management (SAP PLM). The search function on the Web UI of SAP PLM is based on the Embedded Search and TREX; for more information, see Embedded Search.
You have at least display authorization for the objects for which you are searching. If you do not have display authorization for the objects being searched, these objects are not displayed in the results list.
You can change the object type with which you are performing the search, at any time. For example, if you are currently working in the work center for material, you can still search for documents or other objects. Alternatively, you can also search through all object types simultaneously.
You can use either the quick search or the advanced search.
The quick search allows you to find objects whose attributes contain the search character string. You can enter the character string that you want to search for either in a work center directly, or in the control center under Search
.
Choosing the link next the quick search takes you to the advanced search. The advanced search allows you to search for attributes and character strings in the attributes of the required objects. You can also search for attributes of linked objects.
The attributes help you to locate objects that have a particular status, for example, or are assigned to a particular object. To find terms within the attributes, you can use the available full text search, which works by looking for exact matches. If you activate the fuzzy search as well, the system also considers similar terms for the search.
In fields used to search for documents and materials, you can search for objects whose attributes contain multiple values or ranges. Here it's also possible to paste data from the clipboard into the multiple selection dialog of an input field, even when the number of lines to be pasted is more than the number of visible lines. For more information, see SAP Note 1878923
.
The advanced search allows you to save your search criteria using a name, either as a personal or global search query. A personal search query can only be used by the user that creates it, whereas global search queries are available to all users. In addition, the system automatically stores the last three search queries that you have executed, and offers these to you.
Note
If you want to use an existing search query, you have to load it first before starting the search.
