Making the SAP Solution Manager Repository Available for the Help Center

Use

The Knowledge Warehouse repository of SAP Solution Manager is one of the possible repositories for files that can be called using Help Center links. SAP Solution Manager is a prerequisite for implementing and managing your SAP solutions, so you already have access to this repository.

Process experts can create links in the Help Center to files that are stored in SAP Solution Manager as follows:

Repository for Help Center Files in SAP Solution Manager

Description

Project documentation

Members of the implementation team can use transactions SOLAR01 and SOLAR02 to save project documentation for each node of the project structure.

The department process experts (power users) can create links to these files in the Help Center. You cannot edit project documentation from the Help Center.

Special folder for Help Center files

The SAP standard shipment of SAP Solution Manager contains the folder SOLMAN_HELP_CENTER_FILES.

This folder is intended solely for storing files for the Help Center. Files saved here are not visible in other areas of SAP Solution Manager.

Editing Functions in the Help Center

The Help Center provides process experts (power users) with the following editing functions for files from this repository:

  • Create new files (and the corresponding link in the Help Center)

  • Create links to existing files

  • Download files for editing and then update the original file

  • Delete files

To ensure that the functions for using files from the repository of the Solution Manager system are available in the Help Center, you must allow this explicitly. You must also define access for power users and application users from the SAP system to SAP Solution Manager.

Prerequisites

  • You are using SAP Solution Manager 7.0 EHP1 SPS 19 (03/2009) or higher and, within this, the software component ST 400 SP19 (SP name: SAPKITL429).

  • You have adapted the ICF service for accessing learning maps in the Solution Manager system.

You adapt the service in transaction SICF for the hierarchy type ALIAS. On the Logon Data tab page for the Start of the navigation pathdefault_host Next navigation step /sap/bc/solman/defaultuserEnd of the navigation path entry, the procedure must be set to Required with Logon Data.

Procedure

Defining Access to SAP Solution Manager for Help Center Power Users

  1. In the SAP Solution Manager system, create a user that power users can use to access Help Center content in the Solution Manager repository:

    1. Create a communication user with password.

    2. Assign the role SAP_SM_HELP_CENTER to this user.

This role contains authorization to access the HELP_CENTER folder group and thus the corresponding repository folder for Help Center content ( SOLMAN_HELP_CENTER_FILES) in the Knowledge Warehouse repository of the Solution Manager system.

  2. In the SAP application system, create a suitably configured RFC destination that power users from the SAP application system can use to access the Help Center repository in the Solution Manager system:

    1. In the SAP application system, call transaction SM59 ( Configure RFC Connections).

    2. Choose ABAP Connections.

    3. Choose Start of the navigation pathEdit Next navigation step CreateEnd of the navigation path.

    4. Under RFC Destination, enter HELP_CENTER_TO_SOLMAN.

    5. Configure the RFC destination as follows:

      Tab Page

      Field

      Entry

      Technical Settings

      Load Balancing

      Yes

      Target System ID

      Name of Solution Manager system

      Message Server

Host name of Solution Manager system

      Group

      Application group for logon

      Save As

      IP address

      Logon and Security

      Language

The user language must be specified for the logon. Specify a language that is installed in SAP Solution Manager.

      Client

      Client in Solution Manager system

      User

User created in the Solution Manager system with the role for power user activities

  3. Perform a connection test.

Defining Access to SAP Solution Manager for Help Center Users

Make sure that an RFC destination exists for read access (by users) to the Help Center repository of the Solution Manager system. In this case, the RFC destination is generated by the Solution Manager system, is defined in the SAP application system, and has the Solution Manager system as its target system.

  1. In the SAP application system, call transaction SM59 ( Configure RFC Connections).

  2. Open the list of ABAP connections.

  3. Check if the entry SM_<system>CLNT<mandant>_BACK exists. (The placeholders <system> and <mandant> refer to the Solution Manager system and a client in this system.)

If the RFC destination does not exist, make sure that it is generated by the Solution Manager system.

  4. In the RFC destination, enter a logon language that exists in the Solution Manager system.

Background: When the RFC destination is generated, the Solution Manager system automatically assigns it a user with the role allowing access to Help Center content in the Solution Manager system. The system does not enter a language for the user in the generated RFC destination. Presuming that the same logon languages are installed in the SAP application system and in the Solution Manager system, access is always in the logon language of the user. If the logon language of the user does not exist in the Solution Manager system, access fails. You can avoid this problem by making sure that the language you enter for the RFC destination exists in the Solution Manager system. This is necessary for the logon; it has no effect on the display of content.

Allowing Use of Files from the Repository of the Solution Manager System in the Help Center

  1. In the SAP application system, open the Project Implementation Guide for the Help Center.

  2. Choose Start of the navigation pathSAP NetWeaver Next navigation step Knowledge Management Next navigation step Help CenterEnd of the navigation path.

  3. Choose Allow Files from SAP Solution Manager in Help Center.

  4. Select the Allow Files from SAP Solution Manager indicator.

When you save this setting, the system checks the following:

    • Is the RFC connection HELP_CENTER_TO_SOLMAN (for power user activities) present and correctly configured?

    • Is the generated RFC connection SM_<system>CLNT<mandant>_BACK (for Help Center users) present and correctly configured?

    • Does SAP Solution Manager have the appropriate release level?

Editing Files in the Help Center Folder of the Solution Manager System

Power users can use the RFC connection to load files from the Help Center or from the central administration of Help Center content to the Help Center folder of the Solution Manager system, and to change or delete files.

The Solution Manager system contains a Knowledge Warehouse system for managing content. To access the Help Center folder ( SOLMAN_HELP_CENTER_FILES) directly using transaction SI80 of the Solution Manager system, you must have your own user in the system. You can only change file content in the source language. Translators can create language versions of the saved files.

Error Information

The system reports problems that occur during access to the Help Center folder in the Solution Manager system and writes messages in the application log. You can view these messages in the SAP application system as follows:

  1. Start transaction SLG1.

  2. Display the messages for object SWDP_HELP_CENTER.
