JCo Runtime for SAP Cloud Platform - Fixes

  • When using JCoRecord.fromJSON() for a structure parameter, the data is now always sent to the backend system. Also, you do not need to append the number of provided rows for table parameters before parsing the JSON document any more.
  • Depending on the configuration of certain JCo properties, an internally managed connection pool could throw a JCoException (error group JCO_ERROR_RESOURCE). In a thread waiting for a free connection from this pool, an error message then erroneously reported that the pool was exhausted .

This error situation could occur if the used destination was not configured with the property jco.destination.max_get_client_time set to 0 and the destination's jco.destination.peak_limit value was set higher than the jco.destination.pool_capacity.

    This issue has been fixed.

Cloud Connector Fixes

Release of Cloud Connector 2.11.3:

  • An issue in RFC communication could cause the trace entry com.sap.scc.jni.CpicCommunicationException: no SAP ErrInfo available when the network is slow. This issue has been fixed.
  • The Windows service no longer runs in error 1067 when stopped by an administrator.
  • In previous releases, the connection between a shadow and a master instance occasionally failed at startup and produced an empty error message. This issue has been fixed.
  • The Cloud Connector does not cache Kerberos tokens in the protocol handler any more, as they are one-time tokens and cannot be reused.
  • For HTTP access control entries, you can configure resources containing a # character.

Cloud Connector Enhancements

Release of Cloud Connector 2.11.3:

  • If the user sapadm exists on a system, the installation on Linux assigns it to the sccgroup, which is a prerequisite for solution management integration to work properly, see Configure Solution Management Integration.
  • Restoring a backup has been improved. See Configuration Backup.
  • The HTTP session store size has been reduced. You can handle higher loads with a given heap size.
  • Cipher suite configuration has been improved. Also, there is a new security status entry for cipher suites, see Recommendations for Secure Setup.

Cloud Connector 2.11.2

Fixes of Cloud Connector 2.11.2

  • In a high availability setup, the switch from the master instance to the shadow instance occasionally caused communication errors towards on-premise systems. This issue has now been fixed.
  • You can now import multiple certificates with the same subject to the trust store. Details about expiration date and issuer are displayed in the tool tip. See Set Up Trust, section Trust Store.
  • You can now configure also the MOC (Multiple Origin Composition) OData service paths as resources.
  • The Location header is now adjusted correctly according to your access control settings in case of a redirect.
  • Principal propagation now also works with SAML assertions that contain an empty attribute element.
  • SAP Cloud Platform applications occasionally got an HTTP 500 (internal server error) response when an HTTP connection was closed. The applications are now always informed properly.

ABAP RESTful Programming Model

SAP Cloud Platform, ABAP Environment 1911 enforces the proper assignment of result values in action implementations when result parameters are declared in the corresponding action definition. Whereas actions returned the input entity if the result parameter was not filled in the action implementation before 1911, they now return the value of the result parameter as specified in the action definition and exactly according to its implementation.

To avoid that a Fiori UI shows initial values, if nothing is returned, you must fill the result parameter for all actions.

ABAP RESTful Programming Model

You can now define a mapping contract for applications that include unmanaged or managed business objects based on CDS entities on the one hand, and legacy data types (and functions) that are generally older and implement the behavior or parts of it.

The general syntax for field and control (information) mapping in a behavior definition is the following:

mapping for LegacyType control ControlType corresponding
										{
										EntityField1 = LegacyField1;
										EntityField2 = LegacyField2;
										...

You can now integrate Unmanaged Save within the transactional life cycle of managed business objects. In order to integrate Unmanaged Save into the save sequence as a part of the managed runtime, you must first add the corresponding syntax (with unmanaged save) to the behavior definition and then implement the saver handler method as a part of the behavior pool.

ABAP RESTful Programming Model

Until now, the implementation of business object entity's operations and actions had to be done in the Local Types include of the behavior pool associated with that entity. Since the Local Types include can only be changed by one developer at a time, the efficiency of development would be significantly reduced in case of larger implementations. As a solution, the groups can be now used to divide operations, actions and other implementation-relevant parts of the business logic into several groups for behavior implementation.

Server-side paging has now been implemented to improve performance for OData calls. If the OData client does not provide paging query options, the default paging restricts the response to 100 data records. If $top is set to values greater than 5000, the response is reduced to 5000 data records.

Following from this, unmanaged queries require at least the implementation for paging. If the corresponding methods are not implemented and the unmanaged query does not return the respective information, there will be a dump during runtime.

ABAP RESTful Programming Model

A new API is available to implement an unmanaged query in a query implementation class. CPU Performance

We plan to provide a predictable and guaranteed CPU performance for Cloud Foundry applications in August/September (earliest 2018-08-16).

Today, Cloud Foundry applications get a guaranteed 1/8 core CPU per GB instance memory plus available CPU if the Diego Cell is idling. However, this is neither guaranteed nor predictable. In future, we plan to provide 1/4 core CPU per GB instance memory, but we plan to cap the CPU at this level. In addition, we will allow for a maximum of 8 GB instance memory, which means a vertical scaling up to 2 cores CPU per application instance.

Please check the CPU consumption of your applications with cf app <app name> and scale your application if needed. 100% CPU in the output of cf app correspond to 1 core.

Business content, which includes apps, groups, catalogs, and roles, is now available at the subaccount level rather than at the site level and can be shared across all sites in the subaccount. This means that administrators only need to define the business content once, and can then reuse it in different sites, as necessary. Note that pages, site settings, and the menu remain at the site level.

UI Changes
  • The Site Directory and the Content Manager are now both integrated in the Site Manager.
  • The Pages, Settings, and Menu editors are all under a single view (at the site level) referred to as the Site Editor.
  • The Settings Editor has a new assignment panel where you can assign roles to the site.

Migration

Existing sites and content will be migrated automatically and will continue to work.
  • Roles: All roles from all sites will be migrated and will be available in the Content Manager on the subaccount level. Note that some of the roles might be duplicated after the change. In addition, the Everyone role will aggregate the content of the Everyone role in all the sites. This may impact your launchpad pages at runtime by displaying more apps and groups in them. Therefore, you may want to review the role assignment of apps and groups.
  • Pages: Assigning a page to a specific role is not supported. Pages will now be visible to all site's users.

Selection of SAP Fiori version in site menu editor

When configuring a site menu, administrators can switch from SAP Fiori 2 to SAP Fiori 3 as the version for new sites created. The main difference between the two SAP Fiori versions is the color (inherited from the site theme) and the style. To be more specific:

  • The SAP Fiori 2 menu style features the brand color as the menu background color. When hovering over a menu item, the background color of that item changes.

  • The SAP Fiori 3 menu style features the base color as the background color. When hovering over a menu item, an underline in the brand color is added to highlight the menu item.

Transition to the new version of Portal on Cloud Foundry

We would like to bring to your attention the following important information.
  • In TechEd Barcelona 2018, a new version of Portal on Cloud Foundry was introduced. This new version replaces the previous service (on Cloud Foundry) which required working with both Cloud Foundry environment for running sites, and Neo environment for creating sites. The new Portal version provides enhanced usability and simplicity for users.
  • The new Portal version will enable Content federation, UX enhancements (Fiori3.0) and is aligned with the multi-cloud strategy to spread across additional infrastructure in SAP Data Centers. See Portal RoadmapInformation published on SAP site for additional details about the new service planned capabilities.

For more information about the new Portal version, see Portal on Cloud Foundry documentation.

While still supported, the previous version of Portal on Cloud Foundry is not planned to be enhanced with new capabilities offered in the new version, and will only include critical bug fixes. Therefore, we encourage you to transition to the new version of Portal on Cloud Foundry to take advantage of the new capabilities and align with SAP's strategy.

For assistance in the transition, please open a support ticket on component EP-CPP-CF-FLP-RT.

New HTTP Request Header Field

Application Logging supports a new HTTP request header field named "tenantid", which allows application developers to correlate logs to individual tenants of their application. This header field will be transformed into a log field named "tenant_id", which can be used to filter logs in the Kibana UI. To make full use of this feature, applications shall write logs with the latest versions of the publicly available logging libraries.

Custom Metrics

A new feature that allows you to define custom metrics in your application is available in the Cloud Foundry environment. The metrics, available in Kibana, are pushed via a REST API or by some of the pre-defined client libraries (Spring Boot). The feature complements the existing pre-defined Kibana dashboard with container metrics (CPU, memory and disc usage). See Produce Logs, Container Metrics and Custom Metrics.

Log Fields

Starting with the next release, the way custom log fields are handled will change. While such fields can still be added as sub entries under "custom_fields", their value will always be converted into a string. This only applies to newly created custom fields. Custom fields that have already existed until the change will not be affected. Again, this change will take effect after June 6, 2019. A list of standard fields already provided by Application Logging will soon be released to the SAP Help Portal.

Cloud Connector - Certificate Update

For the Connectivity service (Neo environment), a new, region-specific certificate authority (X.509 certificate) is being introduced.

If you use the Cloud Connector for on-premise connections to the Neo environment, you must import the new certificate authority into your trust configuration.

  • After the next month (concrete notification will be rolled out), the current certificate authority will no longer be used to issue client certificates for Cloud Connector deployments, and only the new one will be used.

The Connectivity service will still trust client certificates of Cloud Connector deployments that were already issued.
  • After a three-month period (concrete notification will be rolled out), that trust will be removed and your Cloud Connector deployment must be configured to use the new client certificates.

See Update the Certificate for a Subaccount.
