Warranty Check You can use the warranty check to determine whether a warranty still exists for a technical object. If certain prerequisites have been met, you also have the option of displaying the warranty data of the superordinate technical objects (warranty inheritance).
In Customizing for Plant Maintenance and Customer Service, under
Define Warranty Types
you can stipulate when the warranty check is processed: whether an automatic dialog box should appear if the warranty check is positive when you create a notification, an order, and for the flexible billing.
The following prerequisites must be met for the warranty inheritance:
The superordinate technical object and the subordinate technical object must be assigned to a warranty.
In the
superordinate
technical object, the indicator
Bequeath Warranty
must be set.
In the
subordinate
technical object, the indicator
Inherit Warranty
must be set.
A warranty can begin at different time points, such as the following:
Purchase date (for example, in the case of a machine)
Installment date (for example, in the case of a computer)
Operating start date and time
Combination of the above
The validity period is calculated from that point in time, based on the time or counter readings specified.
When a claim is made for a warranty service, each counter must be checked to determine whether the warranty is still valid for that counter. Depending on the counters involved, this check is either performed automatically by the system, or manually by the user.
For example, if the warranty is valid for a certain period of time from the start date, the system can determine automatically whether the claim is being made within the validity period of the warranty.
If, for example, the validity of the warranty depends on a counter reading , the system technician must take the counter reading and check it against the warranty conditions.
Example
A car dealer sells a car on 01.01.10 with a general warranty valid for up to 1 year or up to 10,000 miles, and a corrosion guarantee valid for up to 5 years from date of purchase.
Six months later, the owner brings his car back to the customer services department. The car dealer performs normal customer service as stipulated by the manufacturer, and checks the service items in the warranty, to establish whether the services that have been performed are covered by the warranty.
The dealer checks the period of time automatically on the basis of the day’s date.
He checks the actual mileage of the car’s milometer.
If there are particular problems are found with the car (for example, first rust patches), these must be checked by an expert. The expert then decides whether the warranty covers the fixing of these problems. He also checks, for example, what external influences the car has been subjected to during the period of time in consideration. Information regarding conditions or usage can be entered in long text form.
The indicators for the warrant bequest have the following meaning:
Bequeath Warranty
in the superordinate technical object
If this indicator is set, then the warranty data of the superordinate technical objects are displayed during the warranty check as well as the warranty data for the technical objects checked. However, you can only display a maximum of one superordinate technical object for each warranty type.
The system searches for the next-highest equipment and the next-highest functional location for which the indicator
Bequeath Warranty
is set, and to which a master warranty or a warranty period is assigned.
You can also set the indicator
Bequeath Warranty
when you create a
master warranty
. In this case it specifies whether the master warranty of the technical object should be passed on to the technical objects lower down in the hierarchy. It is copied automatically if you enter the master warranty in a technical object.
Inherit Warranty
in the subordinate technical object
If this indicator is set, both the warranties that have been passed on and the warranties for the technical object are displayed in a list for the warranty check. If the indicator is not set, only the warranties for the technical object are displayed.
