Assignment of Projects Projects, such as the construction of a crane, usually involve several profit centers (for the design of the motor, for the construction of the frame, and so on). You can therefore assign profit centers to various operational structures:
Project definition
Work breakdown structure element (WBS element)
Network header
Network activity
For more information about project structures, see the
Project System (PS)
component in the SAP Library.
By assigning project structures to a profit center, you can monitor all costs and revenues posted to the structures, along with all work in process, on profit centers.
You can globally assign a profit center to a project in the project definition .
If no profit center is entered in the project definition, then the system automatically determines and updates the dummy profit center, as long as one is entered in the controlling area. For more information, see
For classic Profit Center Accounting, Dummy Profit Center
For new General Ledger Accounting, Dummy and Default Profit Centers
You can assign each WBS element to a profit center.
If no profit center is entered here, then the system automatically determines and updates the dummy profit center, as long as one is entered in the controlling area.
With header-assigned networks , the profit center to which the network header is assigned is updated.
If no profit center is entered there, then the system updates the profit center of the related WBS element.
With activity-assigned networks , the profit center to which the network activity is assigned is updated.
If no profit center is entered there, then the system updates the profit center of the related WBS element.
If no profit center is entered there either, then the profit center in the network header is updated.
