Creating an Article

Use

In an article, you can provide any kind of information. An article consists of several paragraphs that you can structure using headings. In addition, you can insert graphics.

By default, the author's name and a summary of the content appear at the start of an article. In addition, you can insert a picture of the author.

The following table provides an overview of the elements available in the article editor:

You can use this element to display a link to another area, to a document in a KM repository, or an external URL.

Procedure

Depending on how you want to use the article, you create the article within a page, in the Shared Content folder of an area, or in the Global Shared Content folder. For more information about the different options for creating Web content, see: Creating Web Content

  1. Open the article editor.

    You can open the article editor within a page, or in a KM shared content folder. For more information, see: Creating and Editing Web Content

    The system displays the article editor in a new browser window.

  2. Optional: Add a photo of the author.

    1. In the article editor, choose Select Image .

    2. In the Web content browser, navigate to a folder that contains images (for example, Global Shared Content ).

    3. If you want to upload your photo now, choose Upload from the context menu of the folder.

    4. Choose Browse , and then navigate to the folder on your hard disk where you saved the image, and select the image in question.

    5. Choose Upload , and then choose Done .

    6. Select the image that you want to add to the article.

  3. Enter content.

    • Enter a title, an abstract, and an initial heading.

      You need not worry about formatting these elements. Their format is defined in a stylesheet.

    • Enter the first paragraph.

      Some simple formatting functions are provided for paragraphs, such as bold or italic lettering.

  4. Optional: Add elements.

    To add additional headings and paragraphs, proceed as follows:

    1. Select an element (for example, Paragraph ) from the Add Element dropdown list.

    2. Choose Add Element .

  5. Enter the properties for the article in the screen area to the right.

    Properties do not appear in the article itself; instead, they contain information about the article.

  6. Optional: Display a preview.

    The system displays the preview in the same browser window.

  7. On the article editor screen, choose Save , and then choose Close .
