Creation and Editing of Characteristic Groups

Use

You can use the modeling environment for Variant Configuration to create characteristic groups for the interface design.

Prerequisites

To create characteristic groups, you need a configuration profile for the material and an interface design for the configuration profile.

Features

You can edit characteristic groups with the context menu in the model tree and the detailed view.

New characteristic groups do not contain any characteristics yet. To assign characteristics, you can use the detailed view or the context menu.

Model Tree

In the context menu for a new characteristic group, you can

  • Assign characteristics to the group

  • Delete the characteristic group

The characteristics in the group are listed under the characteristic group.

If you select a characteristic in the group, you can delete the characteristic via the context menu.

You cannot edit the General Group of type Tab that is automatically created with the interface design. This group contains all the characteristics that are not assigned to another group of the type Tab , for example, characteristics that are classified in groups of the type Pushbutton or Sequence .

Assigning Characteristics with Drag&Drop

You can also use Drag&Drop to assign characteristics from the model tree to a characteristic group. If you drop a characteristic onto a characteristic group, it is inserted at the end of the group.

If you drop a characteristic onto another characteristic in the group, it is inserted before the corresponding position in the group. In both cases, this characteristic is automatically deleted from the General Group . You can also use Drag&Drop to resort characteristics within a group.

The characteristics in the group are shown in this table.

Choose to add a new characteristic to the group. Enter the name of the characteristic or choose one from the input help.

To delete a characteristic from the group, select the characteristic and choose .

Activities

You can use the modeling environment to create a characteristic group as follows:

  1. Select the interface design in the model tree and use the context menu to create a characteristic group.

  2. Enter a name and description for the new characteristic group.

  3. Use the context menu for the new characteristic group in the model tree or the detailed view to assign the required characteristics to the group.
