Managing SAP Mobile Platform Server Features

Manage multiple server features and resources from a single location.

Features are groups of individual bundles (also known as Eclipse plug-ins) and static resources that form a function or set of functions. The SAP Mobile Platform Server installations include a default set of features that are enabled. To keep the server lightweight and easy to manage, optional features are installed but not enabled. You can enable optional features as required for your environment.

Custom features are assembled by server customization teams and development teams to provide extra server capabilities. To integrate custom features into SAP Mobile Platform Server, you must identify the repository containing the custom features and then enable the features you require.

Enabling Optional Mobiliser Features

Enable the optional Mobiliser features that are installed with SAP Mobile Platform Server. The process can take between a few seconds and a few minutes, depending on the feature.

Before enabling Mobiliser features, you must configure the SAP Mobile Platform Server custom database to support Mobiliser applications. Configuring custom databases for Mobiliser is documented in Installation: SAP Mobile Platform Server: see Configuring <your custom database> to Support Mobiliser.

  1. In Management Cockpit, select Settings, then Features & Components.
  2. Enable the Mobiliser features that you want, then click Yes on the confirmation dialog.

You can customize the Mobiliser Web Portal templates. For more information on customization, see Application Services (Mobiliser) Portal Templates.

Enabling Custom Development Features

To enable custom features for SAP Mobile Platform Server, you must first identify the feature repository. A feature repository (also known as an Eclipse update-site) is a Web or file location where features are stored. To integrate custom features with SAP Mobile Platform Server, the custom feature repository must be in a format that is understood by the Eclipse Equinox P2 provisioning process.

Reporting Mobiliser is a custom feature. Before you can enable this feature, you must:
  • Download Sybase Reporting Mobiliser from SAP Software Download CenterInformation published on SAP site (login required).
  • Extract the zip file and move the update-site directory to your chosen repository location.
  • Enable the com.sap.mobile.platform.server.build.feature.mobiliser.feature.group feature (if not already enabled).
  1. In Management Cockpit, select Settings, then Repositories.
  2. Click click , and enter the URL or file location of the remote or local site where the features are published.
  3. Click Save.
  4. After adding the repository, select Settings, then Features & Components.

The features in the repository appear in the features list.

  5. Enable the features that you want, then click Yes on the confirmation dialog.

Disabling SAP Mobile Platform Server Features

You can disable optional or custom features on the SAP Mobile Platform Server. You should disable features if you do not need them anymore. You should also disable all features in a repository before deleting it. If you do not disable features before deleting a repository, they are removed from the list of enabled features when you delete the repository.

  1. In Management Cockpit, select Settings, then select Features & Components.
  2. Disable the features that you no longer want, then click Yes on the confirmation dialog.

Deleting a Custom Feature Repository

In the current release, if you need an updated version of custom features, you must delete the custom feature repository, add it again, and then re-enable the required custom features. You may also want to delete a repository if you no longer need it, or if its location has changed.

  1. In Management Cockpit, select Settings, then Repositories.
  2. For the repository to be removed, click Start of the navigation path  Next navigation step Delete End of the navigation path.
