Mass Maintenance for Data Archiving Processes

You can use mass maintenance for data archiving processes to process multiple data archiving processes simultaneously.

Prerequisites

If you want to use data volume statistics, selection frequency statistics, or the histogram, you need to have BEx Analyzer installed. You also need to have configured the selection statistics. More information: Selection Statistics

Context

You can change the connection for the near-line storage, change the time characteristic for the time slice archiving, change the primary partitioning characteristic, add further partitioning characteristics, add further grouping characteristics, edit process chain variants, and create new variants for existing data archiving processes.

Procedure

Selecting Data Archiving Processes

  1. In the Data Warehousing Workbench, choose Start of the navigation pathAdministration Next navigation step Housekeeping Tasks Next navigation step Data AgingEnd of the navigation path. The mass maintenance screen for data archiving processes appears.
  2. To begin with, you can now check which InfoProviders contain particularly large amounts of data. To do this, choose Start of the navigation pathAnalyze Next navigation step Size StatisticsEnd of the navigation path in the main menu.
  3. There are a number of different ways to select the data archiving processes that you want to change:
    • By choosing Create by Pattern, you can add to your worklist InfoProviders that
      • use the same time characteristics or characteristics for archiving as a template InfoProvider
      • are assigned to a particular InfoArea
      • follow a particular naming convention
    • By choosing Add by Process Chain, you can you to add to your worklist InfoProviders that are part of a particular process chain.
  4. Choose Add. All InfoProviders that match your selection criteria are added to your worklist.

Selecting Properties of the Data Archiving Processes

  1. You can then select which properties should be changed. By choosing Set Properties, you can specify a near-line connection, a time slice characteristic, a partitioning characteristic, additional partitioning characteristics or characteristics for the semantic grouping. If you choose Update, these properties will be applied to the data archiving processes for the selected InfoProviders in the worklist.
  2. By choosing Set Properties from Template, you can take certain properties from a template InfoProvider and apply them to other InfoProviders. First select an InfoProvider to use as the template. Now select the properties that you want to apply. If you choose Update, these properties will be applied to the data archiving processes for the selected InfoProviders in the worklist.
  3. Choose Generate in order to activate the changed data archiving processes.

Creating and Editing Variants for Process Chains

  1. By choosing Variants, you can create variants for existing data archiving processes and then add these to process chains.
  2. There are a number of different ways to select the variants of the data archiving processes that you want to change:
    • By choosing Add by Pattern, you can add to your worklist variants that meet the various selection criteria.
    • By choosing Add by Name, you can you to add to your worklist existing variants by specifying the name of the variant.
  3. You can then select which properties the variants should have. By choosing Set Properties, you can make various settings for the variants.
  4. By choosing Set by Statistic, you can specify the percentage of the queries to be accessed online, without the near-line storage being accessed. The system then calculates the corresponding time period.
  5. Choose Create in order to create the variants.
  6. Choose Process Chain in order to create the process chain for your variants. Select all variants in your worklist, which you want to add to the process chain, and press Create.
