Analyzing Background Jobs and Work Processes
Use
Analysis of the processing of background jobs and of the background work processes used in BW background management enables you to define measures for improving the load of the work processes and the system.
You have the following options:
- Display and analyze background jobs on all servers
- Display and analyze the use of background work processes
Procedure
Displaying and Analyzing Background Jobs in BW Background Management
You are on the BW Background Management, Logs and Tools screen (transaction RSBATCH).
- On the Background and Parallel Processes tab page, choose List of Background Manager Jobs.
The figure below shows you all the jobs for executing BW processes that are known to BW background management and that ran during the last 24 hours. The jobs are executed with the following additional information:
- Information about the BW process that processed a job. This means information about the process type and other information if the process was executed in a process chain.
- Status of the BW process
- Starting and end time of the BW process
- Number of work processes for handling the BW process that were split off
- Background ID and possible parent background ID for the work process and any work processes that were split off
- Size of the internal messages and parameters of the BW background processing for the BW process in KB.
- Server on which the job was executed
- User who executed the job
- Display the required information for a job selection:
- To display information about the work processes that processed one or more jobs, select the jobs and choose Details. The Background Processes and Job Logs screen appears, which displays the information about the work processes in a Gantt diagram. For more information about this display, refer to the section below Displaying and Analyzing Background Work Processes.
- To display the job overview for one or more jobs, select the jobs and choose
Job Overview. - To display the internal messages of BW background processing for one or more jobs, select the jobs and choose
Display Messages. - To display the internal parameters of BW background processing passed by the main process of the split off processes for one or more jobs, select the jobs and choose Display Parameters.
- Delete any internal messages and parameters for the jobs. Select one or more jobs and choose
Delete Messages or
Delete Parameters.
Displaying and Analyzing Background Work Processes
You are on the BW Background Management, Logs and Tools screen.
- On the Background and Parallel Processes tab page, choose Display Background Processes.
If there are more than 1000 background jobs, a dialog box appears that asks if the input help tables (for BW-specific selections) should be filled. If you want to make BW-specific selections in the work process display (for example with process chains), choose Fill.
On the Batch Processes and Job Logs screen, the work processes used in the last 24 hours on all servers is displayed in a Gantt diagram (background and dialog) with the following information:
- Severs on which the work processes were executed
- Number of jobs in a work process (all jobs)
- Filter or enhance the display according to the following criteria:
- Further information to be displayed for the work processes:
- Number of jobs managed by BW background management in a work process
- Number of incorrect jobs for each work process (all jobs)
- Percentage load of the work processes (all jobs)
- Percentage load of the work processes by jobs managed by BW background management
- Time period in which the work processes were executed
- Severs on which the work processes were executed
- Work process numbers
- BW-specific selections regarding the content, for example with process chains or process types, for which the work processes were executed.
The information displayed for the work processes refers to time intervals (one hour or 10 minutes). In this way you can analyze the load of individual work processes on a sever for a given time interval for a certain period of time and take the appropriate measures.
