Positioning

Prerequisites

You want to position ads. An ad, such as one for the fourth page of a women’s magazine is to be positioned.

You have connected a technical system to the Advertising Management System.

For more information about technical system integration, see the Technical Interface IS-M/ITA, Integration of Technical Systems document.

You have assigned ad booking units to positioning system groupings (Positioning systems grouping field on the Ad BU screen) in the product master data.

You have defined positioning instructions and positioning types and activated the technical system positioning functions in Customizing.

When defining the positioning types, you have specified the document levels at which ads can be positioned and the positioning systems that are accessed when the Determine Positioning and Position functions are executed.

If you have specified item level for a booking unit group, orders with these booking units can only be positioned at item level. The Positioning tab page is not displayed at sub-item level and positioning instructions cannot be entered on the Positioning tab page at schedule line level.

Features

To position an ad, enter the positioning information in the first step, and access the technical system to position the ad in the second step.

Enter positioning instructions

A positioning instruction, positioning ad type, various positioning attributes (positioning priority, reference, position on page), positioning comment, fixed positioning and selective booking can be entered to describe a positioning.

Positioning instructions and the positioning ad type can be entered on the Details tab page at item level. In conjunction with a booking unit, technical content component and a publication date, this information is sufficient to describe ad positioning.

Various positioning attributes and external or internal positioning comments on the Positioning tab page at item, sub-item and schedule line level can be used to specify the positioning information in greater detail or enter alternative positionings.

If the actual positioning has already been returned by the technical system or the manual on-screen mark up check has already been performed manually, you can no longer enter positioning information.

You enter the actual positioning at schedule line level. The actual positioning is entered at this level even if positioning has been made at sub-item or item level.

Inheritance of positioning attributes and comments

Positioning attributes and comments can be entered for an item, sub-item or schedule line.

Subordinate document levels do not inherit positioning attributes and comments at superordinate document levels. If you enter positioning attributes for a sub-item, these are assigned to this sub-item but are not assigned to the schedule lines for the sub-item.

Positioning attributes can be entered at subordinate document levels by copying those for superordinate document items. Positioning attributes can be entered at schedule line level by copying those at item or sub-item level.

You cannot copy positioning attributes with Positioning priority 1.

Positioning attributes and comments that have been entered for an item apply to all sub-items and schedule lines in the item if no alternative attributes or comments have been entered for any sub-item or schedule line. Positioning attributes and comments are only to be inherited if for example alternative positioning attributes are entered for a schedule line in an item.

The following functions for positioning ads are available to you if you have activated the positioning functions in Customizing and positioning is admissible at schedule line level:

Position

To position ads, the technical system is accessed and positioning data, such as the ad spec data, advertiser assignments or status characteristics are transferred to this system.

  • The technical system checks whether the item, sub-item or schedule line can be positioned when you execute the Determine Positioning function and returns the result of this check. You do not access the technical system by executing this function.

  • If you execute the Position function, you can position the item sub-item or schedule line in dialog with the technical system. You access the technical system by executing this function.

The Advertising Management system generates a production order when the order data is created, which it transfers to the technical system.

If you do not want to position an ad during order entry, you require a production order so that the technical system can be accessed and the ad positioned at a subsequent stage independently of the Advertising Management System.
