Transporting Device Types

Context

You can transport a device type definition with the SAP organizer or using spool administration (report RSTXSCRP).

With the latter method, the SAP system downloads an SAP device type in ASCII file format to the file system of the host system on which the report is run. You can then upload the file into another SAP system to complete the transport.

Transporting a device type from one SAP system to another copies all of the following components:

  • The device type

  • All components belonging to the device type, such as print control definitions, device formats, and SAPscript fonts.

Only device type definitions and not definitions of individual printers are transported. To transport a printer name definition, or printer identification, see Transporting Printers (Device Definitions).

Procedure

  1. Download the definition from the source SAP system.

    1. Choose Start of the navigation pathTools Next navigation step CCMS Next navigation step Spool Next navigation step Spool AdministrationEnd of the navigation path and then Start of the navigation pathUtilities Next navigation step For Device Types Next navigation step ExportEnd of the navigation path.

    2. Select the device type and then enter the following:

      • Object Name: Device Type Name>

      • Mode: Export

      • Dataset: Path Name>

      Path and file name of the file that is to be uploaded. Do not use any file name extension; the file automatically contains the extension “pri”. The SAP system must write permission for the specified directory.

  2. Upload the definition into the destination SAP system. If the "destination" application server is on another host system than the "source" server, then the download directory must be accessible from the host system of the "destination" server.

    1.     2. Select the device type and then enter the following:

      • Object Name: Device Type Name>

      • Mode: Import

      • Dataset: Path Name>
