Adding Your Own Bar Code Definitions

Use

You want to...

  • Add new bar codes

  • Use a predefined bar code on a printer other than those listed in Predefined Bar Codes.

Procedure

To define a bar code and activate bar code printing, do the following:

  1. Create a system bar code; that is, define the bar code in SAPscript, if it has not already been defined.

  2. Copy the device type definition of the printer with which you are working. You can skip this step if you are adding a new printer type to the SAP System.

Use the new device type in all of the printer definitions that you set up for printing with bar codes.

  3. Define the printer bar codes for the system bar codes that you intend to use.

  4. Enter the escape sequences (printer commands) for bar code printing in the print controls that you have defined.

To do this, call transaction SPAD ( Spool Administration), and choose Full Administration. Switch to the Device Types tab page, enter the name of the copied device type, and confirm your input.

Choose Print Controls and, using the manual provided with your bar code equipment, enter the printer commands required for starting and stopping bar code printing.

For example, for SBP25 (from step 2), enter the escape sequence that switches the printer into bar code mode. For SBS25, enter the sequence that deactivates off bar code mode.
