Take Away the Core Concepts

Three core concepts to remember in "Magellan" are Explorations, Datasets and Analyses.

The following information elaborates on the core concepts in the application:
  • Explorations: All the information that you need to answer a series of business questions about a particular part of your business. Explorations consist of a single dataset grouped together with all of the analyses associated with the dataset.

  • Datasets: Data that you use to answer business questions. "Magellan" currently supports datasets defined in CSV files. Therefore, it is important to source and upload a CSV file for the application to work effectively. Also, it is vital for accuracy that you use large datasets of strong operational data, not summarized or granular data.

  • Analyses: Results of the execution of Advanced Analytic processing on the dataset to answer a business question. The business question is defined by the user pointing "Magellan" at a particular part of the dataset and asking it to run an analysis against it. There are two types of core analysis in the initial release:
    • Key Influencer Analysis – Find patterns in the data that have an impact on the chosen field or range of data.

    • What-If Analysis – Put the output of a Key Influencer Analysis to use to help plan future business activities.
