Data from SAP Sustainability Footprint Management

This chapter describes the aggregation behavior supported by SAP Sustainability Footprint Management when replicating data to SAP Sustainability Control Tower. SAP Sustainability Footprint Management supports selectable aggregation granularity for both calendar and fiscal time dimensions. Supported granularities include Monthly, Quarterly, and Yearly for calendar periods, and Fiscal Period, Fiscal Quarter, and Fiscal Year when a fiscal variant is enabled. The selected granularity is applied during aggregation and replication so that downstream reports reflect the chosen periodicity.

Prerequisites

Integration with SAP Sustainability Footprint Management is configured. For details on how to integrate SAP Sustainability Footprint Management with SAP Sustainability Control Tower, see Integrating with SAP Sustainability Control Tower.

Supported Functionality

Aggregation to a selected target periodicity is supported.
The selected granularity is applied during aggregation and replication so that imported data reflect the configured periodicity.

Note

Disaggregation of data into smaller time periods is not supported. If source data in SAP Sustainability Footprint Management have a coarser granularity than the configured target granularity (for example, SAP Sustainability Footprint Management data are Yearly while SAP Sustainability Control Tower is configured for Monthly), those source records cannot be disaggregated and will not be replicated at the finer periodicity.

Aggregation Granularity

You can select one of the following aggregation granularities:
- Monthly
- Quarterly
- Yearly
- Fiscal Period
- Fiscal Quarter
- Fiscal Year
When a fiscal variant is enabled, fiscal options are available.

If the fiscal variant uses fiscal periods that correspond to calendar months, Fiscal Period, Fiscal Quarter, and Fiscal Year map to calendar months, quarters, and years. Otherwise, the Fiscal Quarter option is not available.

The selected granularity determines how SAP Sustainability Control Tower aggregates and replicates source measures.

Replication Behavior

The selected target granularity determines how data from SAP Sustainability Footprint Management is replicated to SAP Sustainability Control Tower.
When a larger target periodicity is selected, source measures are aggregated by summation.

Disaggregation into smaller periods is not supported.

Missing sub-periods are excluded from the aggregation and are not treated as explicit zero values.

Examples

The selected target granularity determines how data is replicated. SAP Sustainability Control Tower aggregates source measures by summation when a larger target periodicity is chosen. Disaggregation is not supported. Missing sub-periods are excluded from the sum and are not treated as explicit zeros.

Note

If the target granularity covers a larger period but only a subset of that period’s constituent sub‑periods exist in SAP Sustainability Footprint Management, the aggregated value is the sum of the available sub‑period records only. For example, if Yearly granularity is selected but SAP Sustainability Footprint Management contains values only for January–April, the replicated yearly value equals the sum for those four months — it is not adjusted or filled in to represent a full year. This can lead to incomplete or misleading aggregates and may skew derived metrics such as averages per period. To avoid this, ensure all required sub‑period data are present in SAP Sustainability Footprint Management for the chosen target granularity, choose a coarser granularity that matches the source data, or (where appropriate) add explicit zero‑value records in SAP Sustainability Footprint Management for missing sub‑periods before replication.

Monthly Data Replicated on Monthly Level
- Source data in SAP Sustainability Footprint Management: PeriodStart = 2026-01-01, PeriodEnd = 2026-01-31, Value = 1,200 kWh
- If Monthly granularity is selected, the same monthly period is replicated to SAP Sustainability Control Tower without aggregation.
Monthly Data Aggregated to Quarterly Level
- Source data in SAP Sustainability Footprint Management:
  
  January 2026: PeriodStart = 2026-01-01, PeriodEnd = 2026-01-31, Value = 1,200 kWh
  
  February 2026: PeriodStart = 2026-02-01, PeriodEnd = 2026-02-28, Value = 900 kWh
  
  March 2026: PeriodStart = 2026-03-01, PeriodEnd = 2026-03-31, Value = 1,100 kWh
- If Quarterly granularity is selected, the system aggregates the monthly records and replicates a single record for Q1 2026 with total value = 3,200 kWh.
  
  If one month has no data (for example February 2026), SAP Sustainability Control Tower aggregates only the available months within the quarter. Missing sub-periods are excluded from the sum.
Quarterly Data Replicated on Quarterly Level
- Source data in SAP Sustainability Footprint Management: PeriodStart = 2026-01-01, PeriodEnd = 2026-03-31, Value = 3,200 kWh
- If Quarterly granularity is selected, the quarterly period is replicated to SAP Sustainability Control Tower as-is (no disaggregation).
  
  The data cannot be disaggregated into monthly periods.
Quarterly Data Aggregated to Yearly Level
- Source data in SAP Sustainability Footprint Management:

  If Yearly granularity is selected, the system aggregates the quarterly records and replicates a single record for 2026 with total value 12,200 kWh.
Fiscal Period Example

Fiscal options are available only when the fiscal variant uses fiscal periods that correspond to calendar months.

The behavior of Fiscal Period, Fiscal Quarter, and Fiscal Year is equivalent to the behavior of calendar months, quarters, and years.

Example source data in SAP Sustainability Footprint Management (fiscal quarter):

Note
- If Fiscal Quarter granularity is selected, the fiscal-quarter record is replicated as-is.
- If Fiscal Year granularity is selected, fiscal-quarter values are aggregated by summation into the fiscal year.
- Fiscal-quarter data cannot be disaggregated into fiscal periods.
For example, the fiscal-quarter record covering 2026-07-01 to 2026-09-30 cannot be split into individual fiscal periods.
