Creating a Query-Based Taxonomy from Scratch

Context

You want to create a query-based taxonomy and corrsponding folder structure from scratch. That is, you do not want to use an existing folder hierarchy for the taxonomy.

Procedure

  1. Create an Index.

You need to create an index before you can create a query-based taxonomy. You do this in the Index Administration iView in index administration.

  2. Assign data sources to the index.

You now assign data sources to the newly created index. You want to index these data sources and create a taxonomy for them.

  3. Create the root nodes of the taxonomy.

You now create the root nodes for the folder hierarchy of your taxonomy in index administration under Taxonomies. You create a new taxonomy and define the type of taxonomy at the same time. In this instance, it is a query-based taxonomy.

  4. Create the categories of the taxonomy.

Now create the categories of the taxonomy manually in the form of individual folders. You do this in the Category Browser iView ( Start of the navigation pathContent Manager Next navigation step Repositories Next navigation step TaxonomiesEnd of the navigation path). Name the folders and create a new folder hierarchy targeted to your needs.

  5. Define the categories of the taxonomy using search queries.

For each taxonomy folder, you now define the categories of the query-based taxonomy using a search query. These queries define which documents are later classified into the categories. You define the queries in the Taxonomy Query Editor iView.( Start of the navigation pathContent Manager Next navigation step Taxonomy Query EditorEnd of the navigation path. For more information, see Defining Search Queries (Simple View) ).

Results

When you have created a query-based taxonomy, you can begin the query-based classification of documents. For more information, see Classifying Documents .
