Links
Use
With a link, you can directly access an item stored at a different location.
Prerequisites
The link is only displayed if:
-
The folder is configured to display links.
-
You have read permission for the link itself.
-
You have read permission for the target item.
Features
You can create the following types of links in a folder:
-
Internal links
Internal links reference documents or folders in KM repositories. There are two types of internal links:
-
Static - internal links that do not follow their target object. These links are broken if the target resource is moved or renamed.
-
Dynamic - links that follow their target object dynamically. If the target moves or changes its name, the link remains intact and still points to the correct resource.
By default, if the links and the target objects are located in the same KM repository, the internal links are dynamic. If you move a target object to another folder in the same KM repository, the system updates the link.
The target of a dynamic link must reside in the same repository as the link itself.

External links
External links reference objects that are not in KM repositories, such as Internet pages. If the target item is moved or deleted, the link no longer works.
In the case of internal links, some functions are related to the target item, and some to the link itself.
Collaboration Functions
When you create feedback, comments, discussion posts, or personal notes for a link, they are always stored in relation to the target item. This means that every link takes you to the same feedback, comments, discussions, and personal notes as in the target item.
You need read permission for the target object in question in order to create feedback, comments, discussion posts, and personal notes on it.
Details Dialog Boxes
For links to items in KM repositories, you can display two Details dialog boxes:
-
Details for Link
This dialog box only contains functions that relate to the link itself, such as renaming links or permissions for the link.
-
Details
This dialog box contains functions that relate to the target item, such as subscriptions, collaboration functions, and permissions for the target item.
