Adding Properties to a Product Category

The product categories is an implementation of a classification system for products. It allows you to organize items into a hierarchy and assign properties that describe each item in a structured way. In a product category hierarchy, the first level is broad categorization, the second level is groups and subgroups and as the level descends, the groupings become more specific where the properties are assigned.

Context

The administrator defines the classification hierarchy using the Product Categories app. The properties are assigned to these categories. The users assign a product category to a product in Enterprise Product Structure and can filter properties to display the set that is relevant to the product category.

Procedure

  1. Open the Product Categories app.
  2. Select the product category under which you would like to create the new category, then choose Create. If you want to create a main product category right under the root, select the root.
  3. Enter a name and description.
  4. In the Properties section, choose Create.
  5. Search for the property and save your work.
