Row Keys and Column Keys

Use

When you compare the data of several recipes, formulas, or substances using the Recipe Comparison, Formula Comparison , or Substance Comparison output variants, you have to define a row key and column key so that the system can perform the comparison. In addition, defining a row key and column key in the output enables you to arrange data clearly in tables.

Features

In the output layout of the output variant, you use the following indicators and output objects to control how the system arranges the data in the output tables:

  • You use the Column Key indicator to specify which output object controls how the data is arranged in columns and appears as the title of the columns.

  • You use the Row Key indicator to specify which output object controls how the data is arranged in rows and appears first in the rows in the table.

    If you set the Row Key indicator when comparing input and output materials for the material description, the system arranges the input and output materials alphabetically in rows according to the material description.

  • You use the generic row key output object to influence the order in which the system outputs the rows. If you specify that this output object comes first in the output layout, and set the Output and Row Key indicators, the system outputs the rows in the same sort sequence as they appear on the tab pages. This means that you overwrite the alphabetical sort sequence of the output objects, for example. However, the system always outputs the outputs below the inputs.

  • You use the generic column key output object to influence the order in which the system outputs the columns. If you specify that this output object comes first in the output layout, and set the Output and Column Key indicators, the system outputs, for example, the reference recipe, reference formula, or reference substance in the first column in the comparison output, even if this would not appear first in alphabetical order.

Example

In the examples that follow, the formulas 19279 and 19281 are compared using the Formula Comparison output variant:

  • Comparing header data

    To achieve the following output, set the Output indicator in the output layout under Start of the navigation path Header Data End of the navigation path Formula for the following objects:

    • Formula

    • Value Desc.

    • Value

      In addition, set the Column Key indicator for Formula and the Row Key indicator for Value Desc. . In the output parameters, choose a formatting profile, set the Format and Display Legend indicators, and enter the formula 19279 as the reference formula. Since this formula is the reference formula, you do not have to output the generic column key output object because formula 19279 is output before formula 19281.

      Note Note

      When the header data is compared, the system treats numerical values as texts which means that it only shows that the values are different and not whether a value is larger or smaller than the comparison value.

  • Comparing material quantities

    To achieve the following output, set the Output indicator in the output layout under Input and Output for the following objects:

    • Formula

    • Material

    • Primary output

    • Quantity

    • Unit of measure

      In addition, you set the Column Key indicator for Formula and the Row Key indicator for Material . In the output parameters, choose a formatting profile, set the Format and Display Legend indicators, and enter the formula 19279 as the reference formula.

      Note Note

      Only set the Row Key indicator for the objects that are to be compared in the formulas and are identical in the formulas, for example, for the material. Otherwise, the system interprets whole rows as being different although they are not: If, for example, you also define the item number as a row key as well as the material, and the item number is different for a material that has identical quantities in the formulas to be compared, the system marks the quantities and all other cells in the row as different. However, if you only define the material as a row key, the system marks the item number only as different and not the identical quantities.

      If a value was entered in one formula but not in another, the system only marks the value as different when the header data is compared and not when other views are compared. The value is not formatted separately there.
