Validity of Independent Formulas: Example This example illustrates how different editing methods influence change state creation and validity. It describes how an independent formula is edited in formula management.
You create the formula with change number C1 and enter material item 1. A change state with change number C1 is created for the formula header and material item respectively. This change state obtains
01/05
as the valid-from date, which is specified in the relevant change master record. The validity of the change state is unrestricted.

You enter formula editing without a change number on the key date
03/20
and add material item 2. The new material item obtains
03/20
as the valid-from date.

You enter formula editing with change number C2 and change material item 2. A new change state with change number C2 is created for the changed material item and the formula header respectively. It obtains
12/07
as the valid-from date from the relevant change master record. The validity periods of the existing change states are shortened accordingly; they end with the day immediately before.

You enter formula editing with change number C3, change material item 1 and add the new material item 3. A change state with change number C3 is created for the material items and the formula header. It obtains
06/11
as the valid-from date from the relevant change master record. In the formula header, the validity period of the new change state ends on 12/06, that is, immediately before the valid-from date of the new change state. The validity periods of the preceding change states of the formula header and material item 1 are shortened. They end on 06/10.

You enter formula editing without a change number on the key date
11/03
and change material items 2 and 3. The change state valid on this key date is changed with the change number C3. Your changes are valid for the entire validity period of this change state.

You notice that the changes made with change number C3 must already take effect in May. For this reason, you replace the valid-from date
06/11
in the relevant change master record with
05/01
. The valid-from date of all change states to which the change number has been assigned is now shifted to 05/01. The validity period of the preceding change states ends on 04/30.
