Transferring Measurement Data to the LAW by RFC

Prerequisites

The report RSLAW_PLUGIN (version 5.0 or higher) exists in the LAW central system and the component systems.
There is a functioning RFC infrastructure between the LAW central system and the component system. If they exist, you can copy the RFC destinations of the SAP Solution Manager for this purpose.
You have made the RFC destination for the LAW central system known in the component system (see Collecting Measurement Data in the Component System).
To load the system data from a file, you must have received the LAW electronic measurement plan from SAP by e-mail. This contains the system data (system number, installation number, hardware key, system ID). The LAW measurement plan is the basis of every consolidated measurement and is provided by License Auditing Services.

Alternatively, you can also enter the measurement plan manually in exceptional cases.

Context

You have the following options for transferring measurement data to the LAW central system by Remote Function Call (RFC):

Start the measurement in the component system and transfer the data with the report RSLAW_PLUGIN (see Collecting Measurement Data in the Component System).
Start the measurement in the component system from the central system. You then transfer the measurement data to the central system by Remote Function Call (see Collecting Measurement Data in the Component System) or initiate its transfer from the central system (see Starting Remote Actions in the Component System).

Note

To ensure data protection, the LAW triggers only the request for the data to be sent by Remote Function Call. The component system then creates a separate RFC connection to the configured LAW central system for the data transfer.

Procedure

Load the LAW measurement plan, and maintain the RFC destinations of your components systems and of the central system, as described in Entering Component Systems.
Start the measurement in the component systems and in the central system, as described in Starting Remote Actions in the Component System.
To transfer the measurement data to the LAW central system, select the systems with the status new on the Inbox tab page, for which you want to transfer measurement data, and choose Transfer Measurement(s).

All selected measurements with the status new are transferred directly to the LAW. This is indicated on the Systems tab page in the Measurement Results Overview with a green traffic light. A red traffic light, on the other hand, indicates that you have not yet transferred the measurement results for the relevant system.

Note

The use of the inbox is optional, but recommended. If you do not use the Inbox, the data is directly transferred.

If you do not want to use the inbox generally, choose Utilities Global Settings, and select the option Do Not Use Inbox. The Inbox tab page is no longer displayed as of this point, and the incoming measurement data is transferred directly to the LAW. Data that already exists for the same component system is replaced without a query in this case.
On the Messages tab page, you can display a log for all actions, to be able to react to possible errors.

The functions of the application log are available to you here, in particular the button New Selection. You can use it to specify the period for which the log entries are to be displayed.

Results

The data of the systems relevant for the measurement is displayed on the Systems tab page in the Measurement Results view. For more information about a system, double click the corresponding line.
