Grouping Users Using Multiple Levels
Context
With multi-level user grouping, you can group users by more than one criterion, in a number of steps, where you define all steps before the start of the grouping.
Procedure
-
Define the sequence of the grouping by assigning a step number to each criterion.
To do this, use the input help to enter the number in the field before the respective criterion. An empty number field means that this criterion is not used for grouping. Ensure that overall you use sequential numbers, although they can be in any sequence; that is, 1, 2, 3 … or 3, 1, 4, 2 …
-
Start the grouping.
The system groups the users first by criterion 1. It then groups all users that were not assigned to a group in the first step by criterion 2. When doing so, the system attempts to assign the users to a group from the first step.
The system continues the grouping with additional criteria until all users are assigned to a group. Any other possible criteria then remain unused.
If not all users are assigned to a group after the system has performed all of the steps, the system starts at criterion 2 and groups these users in accordance with criterion 2, 3, and so on. In this case, too, the procedure ends as soon as all users are grouped.
Example
In the first step, the system groups by a first criterion, for example, by last name. If there are then still users that have not been grouped, the system groups using a second criterion, for example, by telephone number. When doing so, the system attempts to assign the remaining users to a user that has already been grouped, based on their telephone number. If this is not possible, the system attempts to make groups among the remaining users on the basis of their telephone numbers.
