Access and Caching of Master Data
All Knowledge Bases, their variant tables, pFunctions, and external variant tables are maintained in SAP S/4HANA back end systems. These are replicated to a Hana DB in cloud by SAP Variant Configuration and Pricing cloud application. SSC connects to this Hana DB at time of tenant provisioning to provide the configuration services for replicated KB's.
Caching of Knowledge Bases
To reduce network latency between SSC engine in cloud and Hana DB , SSC at time of deployment itself reads KB and its internal variant tables from Hana DB and stores it in compressed form internally.
SSC looks for any updates in KB every 5 minutes and updates its compressed KB database for any changes it finds in database. Thus, there can be a small delay in launching the new KB version in cloud after it's replicated from S/4 to Hana DB.
Caching of p-Functions
SSC engine caches p-Functions in-memory and cache is refreshed as soon as an update of p-Function is available in Hana DB.
Caching of SSC External Variant Tables
SSC engine caches external variant tables in-memory. As external variant table data doesn't change frequently, SSC External Variant table cache is refreshed on hourly basis in production landscape.
