Changing the Payroll Area for Concurrent Employment
You can use this function to ensure that for Concurrent Employment only changes after which payroll can be correctly run can be made to the payroll area. For example, the system prevents you from changing the payroll area for only one of an employee's multiple personnel assignments that are assigned to the same payroll area. This is because this would cause all of the employee's personnel assignments to be rejected during payroll.
You have activated this function in Customizing for Personnel Management under using the CCURE CHGPY
switch. The function is activated in the standard system.
If you try to change the payroll area and your changes would result in payroll not being able to be run for the employee in question, an error message is displayed. You cannot make such a change.
For example, this is the case if you want to change the payroll area for a personnel assignment and payroll has already been run for another of the employee's personnel assignments with the same payroll area in this period.
If you change the payroll area for a personnel assignment and the employee has other personnel assignments that belong to the same payroll area, the payroll area is also changed for the other personnel assignments.
Example
An employee has the following personnel assignments:
Personnel Assignment |
Period |
Employer/Legal Person Assignment |
Payroll Area Assignment |
|---|---|---|---|
A1 |
As of February 1 2009 |
L1 |
US |
A2 |
As of February 1 2009 |
L1 |
US |
A3 |
January 1 2009 – March 30 2009 |
L2 |
UM |
You change the payroll area for the personnel assignment A2 from US to UW from March 1 2009. Therefore, the system also changes the payroll area for the personnel assignment A1 from US to UW from March 1 2009.
If you create a new personnel assignment and this has the same employer or legal person, or the same payroll area as one of the employee's existing personnel assignments, the system automatically adjusts the infotype records of the new personnel assignment to the existing personnel assignment.
Example
An employee in the US has the personnel assignment A1 with the personnel area PA1 and personnel subarea PS1. In the US, the employer is defined by the Tax Company
. The Tax Company
is derived from a combination of personnel area and personnel subarea that are defined for the personnel assignment. In this case, this means that the personnel assignment A1 belongs to the Tax Company
L1.
You create an additional personnel assignment A2 for the same employee and enter the personnel area PA1 and personnel subarea PS2. This combination of personnel area and personnel subarea is also assigned to Tax Company
L1. This means that another personnel assignment with the same employer exists for this employee.
On February 1 2009, you changed the payroll area for the personnel assignment A1 from US to UM. The same payroll area change also automatically applies to the personnel assignment A2.
If you create the new personnel assignment A2 retroactively with the start date January 1 2009, the system thus also creates two infotype records for the personnel assignment A2, independently of the payroll area that you enter when creating personnel assignment A2:
Personnel Assignment |
Period |
Payroll Area Assignment |
|---|---|---|
A1 (Existing) |
January 1 2009 – January 31 2009 |
US |
February 1 2009 – December 31 9999 |
UM |
|
A2 (New) |
January 1 2009 – January 31 2009 |
US |
February 1 2009 – December 31 9999 |
UM |
If you create the new personnel assignment A2 with the start date February 1 2009, you can assign it only to the payroll area UM:
Personnel Assignment |
Period |
Payroll Area Assignment |
|---|---|---|
A1 (Existing) |
January 1 2009 – January 31 2009 |
US |
February 1 2009 – December 31 9999 |
UM |

A2 (New) |
