Features

You use this iView to edit an existing task for your chosen project or to create a new task. The following overview contains the key steps you carry out in this process.

Step

Procedure

Select Project

To restrict the selection of projects for the current work task, you can call different project lists:

  • You can display the list of projects that you added to your favorites beforehand.

  • Another list contains the projects that were last used.

  • The My Projects project list displays your personal project list. It contains all projects to which you are assigned via a role.

  • The Substitutes list displays all objects for which you are acting as a substitute.

Select the project for which you want to edit or create tasks.

Edit Task

The list contains the tasks from the selected project.

The system displays important information about each task, such as the criticality level , status of the task, and the planned start and finish date .The Change column provides an overview of the activities you performed in the current session . The system displays if and how the task was edited in your session, for example, changed . This new or changed data is still in the buffer.

Detail data

The detail area displays the detail data for the task you are currently editing. Here, you enter data for the task, such as description and work . Some data is displayed only, such as the person responsible. The Constraint field controls whether it is possible to make an entry in the Start Date and Finish Date fields.

Edit existing task

When you edit an existing task, this task can be assigned to a project definition, a phase, or a checklist item.

You can only edit a task whose status allows data to be entered. Change the status first, if necessary. For more information, see “Integration”.

Create task

When you create a task, this task is always assigned to the project definition.

Delete task

When you delete an existing task, this task is marked for deletion. This task is still displayed in the task list.If you delete a task you created in the current session, this task is deleted from the task list.

Apply

Once you have edited all the data for a task, choose Apply . The system transfers the data to a buffer. You can then edit or create data for another task.

Undo

You can check the activities you performed in this session in the Change column (for example, Created , Changed ). If you want to undo the actions for a task, select this task and choose Undo .

Review and Save

The form contains all data that you transferred to the buffer (for example, work ).

  • If you want to edit the data again, choose Edit Task(s) . You can edit tasks from the chosen project again and transfer them to the buffer.

  • Once all data is correct, choose Save .

The system saves all data to the database and branches to the final step Completed . Only once you have saved this data can you select a new project whose tasks you can edit.

If an error occurs, the system issues an error message and no data is saved to the database.

Integration

Status Dependencies

The status of the task dictates whether you can edit detail data of a task. Dependencies exist between the statuses of the individual project elements. Certain statuses of the superior project elements are passed on to the subordinate project elements with the effect that these subordinate project elements can only be displayed.

For more information, see Status Management .

Example Example

The following dependencies exist between the status of phases and the status of tasks . Locking a phase does not influence the status of the subordinate tasks. However, it is not possible to edit the tasks if the phase is locked.

End of the example.
Status Influences Editing

You can start to edit the tasks once you have created them.

If one of the following statuses is set for the task you cannot enter or change any data:

  • Canceled

  • Completed

  • Not Relevant

In this self-service it is possible to reset these statuses in order to continue editing the data.

However, you can only do this if the status is set for individual tasks only and was not inherited from the superior project element. If the status was inherited, you have to change the status of the superior project element. You can only perform this activity in the cProjects system.

Data Tables from the Back-End System

All data tables from the back-end system that appear for display or further editing in the front-end system are sorted according to an internal order. Resorting individual tables or all tables (for example, by customer modifications) can cause unstable data processing.
