Create Tables in Stories

You can add a table to any SAP Analytics Cloud story.

Procedure

  1. From the (Main Menu), select Start of the navigation path (Stories) Next navigation step CanvasEnd of the navigation path or Start of the navigation path (Stories) Next navigation step ResponsiveEnd of the navigation path to create a new story.
  2. From the Assets panel, select Table, and drag the table widget to the body of the story page.

    You are prompted to add data.

  3. In the Select Model dialog, decide if you want to add a blank table and add a data source later, or if you want to create the table on an existing model right away.

    1. To add a data source, choose Select other model....

    2. Select a folder and then select a data source.

    If prompted, provide the proper login credentials for your data source connection.

    The data source is added to your story and both the Data panel and the Builder panel are displayed. A placeholder widget (ghost widget) appears on the story page. If the data source is an SAP BW query, the table inherits the query layout, filters, and other settings from SAP BW.

    You will automatically work in the new table build experience. For more information, see New Table Build Experience.

  4. Depending on the model, you can switch the table type in the Builder panel:
    • When your existing model is a planning model, you have two choices for the type of table to create:

      • Cross-tab: displays the data that is grouped or totaled in two directions. This is the default table.

      • Forecast Layout: displays the data divided into several time periods, allowing you to look back or look ahead.

    • For analytic models, you can create the following types of tables:

      • Cross-Tab: displays the data that is grouped or totaled in two directions. This is the default table.

      • Non-Aggregated List: shows non-aggregated data in a list view. This table type is available for extended HANA live connections. For more information, see Use Non-Aggregated List Tables (New Table Build Experience).

  5. If you use a Cross-Tab, use the Data panel to drag and drop available objects from the data source to the table. In this panel, you can also create objects such as calculations or input controls, or add objects to the Builder panel. For more information, see Use the Data Panel.

    In the Builder panel, you can also select the objects you want to include in the rows and columns. In this panel, you can reorder or remove the objects, create filters, or define configuration options for your table.   6. Use the Styling tab of the Builder panel to customize the look of the table. For more information, see Format and Style Elements on Story Pages (New Table Build Experience).
  7. To add another table to your story, or to add a table to an existing story, do the following in story edit mode:

    1. From the toolbar, under Insert, select Table.

      If your story already has a data source on any page, that data source is used automatically. If there is more than one data source, the most recently used one is applied to new tables.

    2. You can change the data source:

      • In the Builder panel, go to the Data Source section and select (Select Model).

      • In the Data panel, select Start of the navigation pathAdd Next navigation step Model or DatasetEnd of the navigation path or Start of the navigation pathAdd Next navigation step Data SourceEnd of the navigation path. To replace the data source for your table, next to the data source name, select Start of the navigation path(More) Next navigation step Update Widget DataEnd of the navigation path or drag and drop an object from the newly added data source to your table.
