Understand how your natural language questions are interpreted and transformed into data visualizations by just ask using the human-readable explanations generated by AI.

When you ask a question to the just ask feature, the system interprets your natural language input and generates a data visualization. To help you understand exactly how your question was processed, just ask provides several explanatory information generated with the visualization.

Explanation: A detailed text explanation that describes how your question was interpreted, including which measures, dimensions, filters, and other elements were recognized.
Title: A concise, grammatically correct title of your visualization, describing what data is being shown.
Summary Explanation: A shorter summary of how your question was interpreted to produce the chart.

This content is automatically generated in the same language as your question (English, French, German, Italian, or Spanish) and help bridge the gap between what you asked and what the system understood. This information makes the generated chart more transparent and trustworthy by showing you exactly how the AI interpreted your request.

How to Review and Use the Generated AI Explanation

Procedure

Ask just ask a business question relating to your data as usual.
While searching through your data and answering the question, view the Thinking... section showing the stream of reasoning just ask is using while processing your prompt.
After processing your question and after generating the chart, the Explanation section is displayed above the chart. Expand the section to review the generated explanation and scroll within the section to see all details.

Note

Generating explanations adds minimal processing time to your query. Very complex questions may result in longer explanations but the explanation is generated after the chart is created.

Results

The generated AI explanation provides transparency and starts with a summary showing your prompt, the data model used in the response, measures and dimensions identified, and entities that were exact matches or similarity-based matches for your prompt terms. In addition to the summary, the explanation may also include some of the following elements depending on your question:

Filters: Any dimension or measure-based filters applied.
Variables: Any applied variable values.
Hierarchies: Drill levels in hierarchical data.
Variances: Variance or comparison calculations.
Visualization: The type of chart or other visualization chosen and why.

Read through the information provided by the explanation to verify that your intent behind your question was understood correctly. If the interpretation differs from what you intended, note which terms were misunderstood, and try refining your question using the insights from the explanation. For example, use recognized synonyms and terms in follow-up questions for better results.

To see the generated AI explanations and title, you must be assigned a role with the Execute permission for the Generative AI privilege.

Language Support

Currently English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish are supported languages. Note that mixed-language questions in your query may produce inconsistent results.
