Copy and Paste Items (Optimized Story Experience)

As a story designer, you can copy and paste widgets, scripting elements and pages across optimized stories or in the same optimized story. Copy and paste items between composites and optimized stories are also supported.

Prerequisites

For example, you've created a story with widgets and scripting elements, such as script variables, script objects and OData services. Now you'd like to use one of the widgets with the corresponding scripts in another story, another page within the story or a composite.

Context

The following scenarios aren't supported:
  • Copy and paste between optimized stories and classic stories or analytic applications

  • Copy and paste items between optimized and classic responsive pages

  • Copy and paste responsive pages to another optimized story with different responsive layout

  • Copy and paste pages from optimized stories to composites

Procedure

  1. On your story page, select the item you want to reuse, and then Start of the navigation pathCopy Next navigation step CopyEnd of the navigation path from its (More Actions) menu or the toolbar.

If you want to reuse the item on the same page, select Duplicate, and it's done.

  2. Paste the item.
    • If you want to paste to another page in the same story:
      1. Go to the target page.

      2. Select Start of the navigation path (Copy and Paste) Next navigation step PasteEnd of the navigation path from the toolbar.

You can also copy and paste an item to another page in the story by selecting Copy To and then the corresponding page.

    • If you want to paste to another story or a composite:
      1. Open the target story or composite.

      2. Select Start of the navigation path (Copy and Paste) Next navigation step PasteEnd of the navigation path from the toolbar.

You can also use the keyboard shortcuts CTRL + C and CTRL + V to copy and paste.

It's supported to copy and paste either in the same browser tab or across browser tabs. You can copy and paste without opening another browser tab by closing the current story and moving to the target story or composite.

    Note

Some widgets aren't supported in composites, so they won't be pasted.

Results

You've copied and pasted an item to the target story or page. For a widget with scripts assigned, you can find active next to the pasted widget in the Outline panel and select it to check the copied script.

Copy and Paste a Page

You can copy and paste a page within the same story or across stories, either in the same browser tab or across browser tabs. Under the dropdown of the page tab, select Copy, and then paste it to the target story.

Restriction

If the pasted page is inactive in the source story, some features may not be pasted to the target story, such as calculation created in charts.
