Chart Builder Panel Improvements in Optimized Design Experience

There are design improvements for the chart Builder panel in SAP Analytics Cloud's Optimized Design Experience.

Note

The improved design of the Builder panel is currently only available for charts.

Design Improvements for Chart Type

In Optimized Design Experience, there is a dropdown menu that shows all the available chart types. This dropdown menu is found under Currently Selected Chart in the Builder panel.

Tip

You can see the chart category (comparison, trend, distribution, correlation, indicator, more) in the tooltip that appears when you hover over a chart option in the dropdown. For more information on chart types, see Choosing the Best Chart Type for the Data.

Additionally, ghost charts, which are grayed out versions of the charts, now display a visual representation of the selected chart type in the widget. The chart orientation is also reflected in the ghost chart.

Example

You can see a ghost chart when you have a chart with no added measures.

Design Improvements for Data Source

In Optimized Design Experience, hovering over or selecting the data source name now indicates Data Source ID and Last Updated information in the tooltip. The tooltip also displays the description and file path under Data Source Details.

The icon for selecting a model has been updated. The (Change primary model) button in Classic Design Experience is updated to the (Select Model) button in Optimized Design Experience.

The Add Linked Models and (Link Dimensions) options that you see in Classic Design Experience have been simplified to just (Blending) in Optimized Design Experience.

Note

Blending is currently not supported in Optimized Design Experience.

This header section of the Builder panel containing the data source information stays fixed at the top of the Builder panel. Even as you scroll down the panel, you can still view this section at the top of it.

Available Objects Panel

The Available Objects panel is a new feature added in Optimized Design Experience. The Available Objects panel allows Story Designers to see all measures, calculations, input controls, and dimensions.

For more information on the Available Objects panel, see Available Objects Panel in Optimized Design Experience.

Design Improvements for Adding Objects

When adding objects such as measures or dimensions to your chart using the Builder panel, a dialog appears instead of a dropdown menu. The dialog will open and expand to take up the height of the Builder panel for better viewing.

In the dialog and in the Available Objects panel, measure input controls and dimension input controls are organized in a separate section instead of being included in the same section as measures and dimensions. This can make it easier to find your input controls.

Chart Add-ons Section

The (Add/Remove Chart Components) option in Classic Design Experience has been renamed to Chart Add-ons and is now a section at the bottom of the Builder panel. This section lists configurations that you can add to your chart such as Linked Analysis, Variance, Hyperlink, and so on.

Additional Design Improvements

The following design improvements have also been made for the chart Builder panel:
  • There is an icon next to each measure and dimension name.

  • Required fields are highlighted with a color and a dashed border in the panel.

  • The style of the Color palette has been updated.
